Job Description
Job Title: Mental Health Practitioner
Department: ARMHS
Reports To: Community Services Supervisor or Mental Health Supervisor
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Summary Provide home and community based mental health services to individuals
with mental illness under the direction and supervision of a Mental Health Professional.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be
assigned.
Implement services in the treatment plan for each consumer under the clinical supervision
of a Mental Health Professional. The plan may include services that instruct, assist and
support a consumer in areas such as interpersonal communications, community resource
utilization and integration, crisis assistance, relapse prevention, budgeting, shopping and
healthy lifestyle skills and practices, cooking and nutrition, transportation, medication
education, mental illness symptom management, household management, employment
related skills and transitioning to community living.
Establish therapeutic relationships with assigned consumers and meet with each
consumer as needed according to contracted hours.
Under the direction of the Mental Health Professional, conduct functional assessments
and develop individual treatment plans for assigned consumers
Document all services provided accurately, completely and within required deadlines
Under the direction of the Mental Health Professional, review individual treatment plans
for all recipients and revise them as necessary
Must submit all documentation in a timely manner according to the determined
guidelines and deadlines
Complete initial and ongoing training requirements defined for the position at required
minimum standards
Meet with the Mental Health Professional Clinical Supervisor at least monthly for
training and treatment plan review
Must attend and complete all required training necessary for the position within the
appropriate time frames
Report problems, concerns, client grievances to your supervisor immediately.

Qualifications
The Mental Health Practitioner shall meet the qualifications defined in Minnesota Statute
2545.462 subdivision 17. These include that the Mental Health Practitioner:
-Hold a bachelor’s degree in a behavioral science or related field from an accredited
college or university AND-has at least 2000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery of mental health
services to recipient with mental illness OR-is fluent in the non-English language of the ethnic group to which at least 50%
of the consumers belong, completes 40 hours of training in the delivery of services to
consumers with mental illness, and receives clinical supervision from a mental health
professional at least once a week until the requirements of 2000 hours of
supervised experience are met. OR-Has at least 6000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery of mental health
services to people with mental illness OR-Is a graduate student in one of the behavioral sciences or related fields and is formally
assigned by an accredited college or university to an agency or facility for clinical
training OR-Holds a master or other graduate degree in one of the behavioral sciences or related
fields from an accredited college or university and has less than 4000 hours post masters
experience in the treatment of mental illness
Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in oneon-one and small group situations to consumers, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure including time, using
whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and
percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in
written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete
variables in standardized situations.
Other Skills and Abilities
Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with consumers and staff
Other Requirements:
Must be able to pass a Department of Human Services background study check
Must hold a valid driver's license and pass current company insurance company's
guidelines for driving a company vehicle
