SAMPLE LETTER TO INVITE LOCAL ALLERGISTS AND OTHER PHYSICIANS TO PARTICIPATE IN A SCREENING PROGRAM The following letter can be sent on your letterhead to allergists or other physicians in your area to invite them to participate in your screening program. Dear (Doctor's name): The American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology invites you to help people breathe easier by participating in the 2007 Nationwide Asthma Screening Program on (date) at (location) from (time) to (time). The program, supported by AstraZeneca, is part of an important public service campaign to promote early detection and effective treatment of asthma. An estimated 100,000 adults and children have been screened with more than half referred for a professional diagnosis since the program first launched in 1997. During the asthma screenings, people with breathing problems will be able to take a health assessment survey and a spirometer test, and receive information on whether they should seek an appointment with an allergist for a diagnosis. People previously diagnosed as asthmatic also will be able to assess whether their disease is under control. Educational materials will be available. We are seeking the assistance of local allergists and other physicians to help conduct the screening and to be on site to help with health assessments. Your role will be to review the results of a 20-question self-administered test, interpret spirometer test results, discuss them with the individuals being screened and advise them on whether they should seek a professional diagnosis. I will call you shortly to determine your interest in participating in the asthma screening program. If you have questions about the program, please don’t hesitate to call me at (your phone number). Sincerely, (Doctor's name) Asthma Screening Coordinator
