injuries, perceptual difficulties, burns, cerebral palsy, developmental delay,
genetic disorders and autism.
Treatment techniques used include: NDT, Adapted Sensory Integration
techniques, developmental profiles, behaviour modification and cognitive
therapy, splinting and pressure care, biomechanical approaches to physical
disability as well as the provision of assistive devices to improve function.
Managerial responsibility, including: Stock orders, Health & Safety, Budget
and Statistics and supervising of elective students.

Alpha School for Children with Autism (4 weeks)
A supervised field work placement focussed on the assessment and
treatment of children on the autism spectrum whom are attending a special
school. Experienced gained in standardised perceptual assessment as well as
the assessment of behaviour disorders and sensory processing disorders.
Treatment included the facilitation of hands on individual and group therapy
encompassing sensory integration as well as motor skill development.
SHAWCO Kensington Community Centre (7 weeks)
A supervised field work placement focussed on the use of environmental
assessment tools in order to establish the ‘functional barriers’(social, work,
leisure and individual) within a community which lead to occupational
alienation, imbalance and depravation. Furthermore, the establishment of
community focussed programs including elements on promotion,
prevention and rehabilitation.
Victoria Secondary Hospital (3 weeks)
A supervised field work placement within a secondary medical facility
primarily focussed on the role of occupational therapy within the acute
hospital setting.
Chris Steytler Sheltered Employment Inst. (8 weeks)
A supervised field work placement focussed on the assessment of people
with disability wanting to enter the work environment and the provision of
work skills training and group therapy in order to prepare people for
employment in the open labour market.
2008
Valkenberg Psychiatric Hospital (8 weeks)
A supervised field work placement focussed on the assessment and
treatment of individuals presenting with a variety of psychiatric diagnosis
and are receiving medical treatment within a closed psychiatric facility.
Red Cross Memorial Children’s Hospital –Burns Unit (7 weeks)
A supervised field work placement within a specialised paediatric burns unit.
Experienced gained in the multidisciplinary acute management of burn
injuries and the long term emotional, functional and psychological effects of
trauma in paediatrics.
