Deputy Minister of Ministry of Education, M. Tsong-Ming LIN Dear Colleagues, Director of the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry M Cédric ALVIANI Dear University representative from Europe and Taiwan, Ladies and Gentlemen, It is my pleasure and honour to open the 10th European Education Fair Taiwan 2011. Today the European Education Fair Taiwan is more ambitious than ever, thanks to all institutions participating to this outstanding event, and also to the French Chamber of Commerce and industry, which made it possible by hosting the administrative and financial preparatory activities of the organizing committee of the Fair. It is a pleasure for me to welcome all participants and of course all French universities and engineering, business and specialized schools which are here in Taipei for this exceptional intercultural event. The European Education Fair has been organized every year since 2002 in Taiwan. It is so successful that an increasing number of European universities come all the way to Taiwan, and that an increasing number of visitors rush to their booths. Last year, during the fair, we had the pleasure to welcome more than 26 000 visitors, parents, students and teachers. I hope that today and tomorrow we will see even more visitors, for this year 115 universities and colleges from 12 countries will be present during these 2 days in Taipei, to meet students willing to go to Europe for their studies and to experience and enjoy European higher education and culture. Among them 13 universities and institutes from France will welcome Taiwanese students. They will help them find the most suitable programme to fulfil their dreams at the heart of Europe. Education is globalized and I am convinced that diversity is crucial. This year global companies will make presentations of their industrial and economic activities in the world and in Taiwan. They will show their need of high level, well-trained employees, with an international education background and a multicultural experience, which is one of the top priorities of leading international companies. Europe and Asia are two of the main regions for high ranking universities and are the regions in which students are striving for high-level education and professional experience. They both boast of an advanced industrial and economic development, with huge needs of well-trained high-level employees. In Taiwan, the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry shelters an employment service which is open to all students, after graduation, for placement in companies in Taiwan. This year CampusFrance holds face-to-face meetings between Taiwanese students and French professors, in order to focus on the high quality of education and research in France, in universities and higher education schools. Already more than 300 appointments with students can be registered on a very advanced online system, in order for them to engage in a formal interview with French higher education representatives. This will increase their chance to get the best offer for their future university degree programme. Europe is wide open to Taiwanese students and ready to welcome them in its best universities, business and engineering schools for their education, training and intercultural experience. Ladies and Gentlemen, I wish a very fruitful 10th European Education Fair for your universities and schools, for your students, and I would like to express my gratitude to all companies and sponsors for their help and financial support to make this education fair a great achievement.
