DEKABAN-LIDDLE GLASGOW-WARSAW FOUNDATION
SENIOR/JUNIOR FELLOWSHIPS 2011-2012
Applications are invited from full-time teachers or researchers in economics and
finance, broadly defined, in any university or institution of higher education in Poland
for a series of Senior and Junior Fellowships tenable in the University of Glasgow in
Session 2011-2012. This will be the eleventh year of a very successful programme.
The definition of economics may be extended occasionally to include appropriate
areas of cognate social sciences since economists need to appreciate the political
and social context within which economic policy operates.
From time to time consideration will also be given to suitably qualified candidates
from government or business in Poland who can show how they might benefit from a
period of study in Britain.
Senior Fellowships are intended for economists in the age-range above 35 and last
for from 2 to 4 weeks. Junior Fellowships are intended for those in the age-range 25
to 35 and last for up to 5 months. All the Fellowships cover living expenses and some
travel within Britain. Junior Fellows will have the opportunity to enrol for postgraduate
classes in the University of Glasgow, and will have the opportunity to participate in
the workshop/seminar activities of research postgraduates at the University of
Glasgow. Successful applicants will be responsible for their travel to and from Britain,
for their insurance and for their dependants. In the case of Junior Fellows, they will
be responsible for course fees in any courses they attend at the University of
Glasgow.
A good knowledge of English is required. Candidates should provide details of the
programme of research which they wish to conduct in Britain and what academic and
practical value they expect it will have on their return to Poland. Projects connected
with restructuring or with membership of the European Union would seem to be of
particular interest at this stage, as might those linked to other, wider research
programmes. Candidates should be prepared to give a lecture or read a paper.
The Fellowships will be awarded on the basis of the candidates’ curriculum vitae, the
quality of their research project and reference/support letters. The relevant
application forms for junior and senior fellowships are attached.
Part of the successful candidates’ period in Britain may be spent in places other than
Glasgow, but only where this is likely to benefit their studies. Where candidates
(especially Junior Fellows) intend to spend a period of study outwith Glasgow
University, they should explain in detail the rationale for a visit to other institutions,
and the links which they have with these other institutions. On completion of the
Fellowship a report will be required.
