SUMMARY INFORMATION FOR CHRIS MALLON
Chris: We reformatted our entire academic plan to mirror CSUN, your model. Because there are
so many changes, I would recommend cutting and pasting the entire plan. This is our summary
of changes:
Summary of Changes
1. Format Change: Eliminated column called Support Mode and identified Special Session
offerings with asterisks, like CSUN.
2.
Format Change: Separated disciplines into schools, like CSUN
3. Updated all dates for Scheduled Reviews (many changes were made as during furlough
year, programs were given additional time to complete their review). Almost all dates changed.
Updated information was given for plans who had completed their reviews.
4. New programs added: Global Studies BA for 2014 and Digitally Integrated Media Arts MA
for 2014
5.
Moved Anthropology from a proposed degree to an existing degree.
6.
Noted all degrees that are being offered off-site with a double asterisk (**).
7. Accredited Programs: Please use this entirely new document. Too many corrective
changes were made by the programs to elaborate.

WASC INFO FROM AMY WALLACE:
II. Summary of WASC comprehensive or educational effectiveness visits (results and
recommendations)
A WASC team has not visited the campus for a comprehensive or educational effectiveness
review since the last report to the trustees.
Accreditation:
CI is scheduled to undergo the WASC accreditation process. CI agreed to test the new WASC
accreditation process, and recently WASC pushed back CI’s review timeline in order to finalize
changes to the new process and standards. The WASC Retention/Graduation and Finance Panels
will conduct their reviews in Fall 2013. The 75-page institutional narrative will be due in
Summer 2014. The WASC Off-site Review will be conducted in Fall 2014, and the WASC Onsite Review will be scheduled in Spring or Fall 2015.
WASC has communicated the desire for its accredited institutions to explore what it means to be
a graduate of their institution, and the assessment and continuous improvement of the five
WASC Core Competencies. CI has developed a “from aspiration to identity” theme, which
focuses on the assessment and continuous improvement of its mission based outcomes
(multicultural, civic engagement/ service learning, interdisciplinary, and international
perspectives and experiences). CI will also participate in the CSU Assessment AVPs plan to
assess and benchmark the WASC Core Competencies, which include critical thinking,
information literacy, written communication, oral communication, and quantitative literacy. CI
has already developed expectations and outcomes for these areas, and currently using rubric and
standardized assessments to continuously improve in these areas.
Substantive Change:
The Goleta Cottage Hospital and Santa Barbara Community College sites were approved by
WASC in March 2012, and all the appropriate paperwork has been filed.
