KS3 The Science department at Perryfields uses the Key Stage 3 curriculum to develop pupils’ investigative skills to enhance their understanding of key scientific concepts. Over the seven terms pupils study a variety of topics from the structure of cells to the expansion of the universe. 7A side 7B side 7C side Autumn Autumn Autumn Tissues and Transplants Acids and Alkalis Energy and Sustainable Living Sex and Science Bubbles Bangs and burning Electrical Circuits Acids and Alkalis Energy and Sustainable Living Tissues and Transplants Bubbles Bangs and burning Electrical Circuits Sex and Science Energy and Sustainable Living Tissues and Transplants Acids and Alkalis Spring Spring Spring Electrical Circuits Sex and Science Bubbles Bangs and burning What a Waste Ecology Matters Forces Rocks Classified Solar System and Beyond Ecology Matters Way of the Dodo Light Forces Summer Summer Summer Classified Solar System and Beyond What a Waste Way of the Dodo Light Rocks Forces What a Waste Ecology Matters Solar System and Beyond Rocks Classified Light Way of the Dodo Tissues and transplants - The study of the construction of organisms from cells to organ systems Sex and Science - Looking at the science of reproduction and growth of organisms Ecology Matters - Where different organisms live and how they are adapted to their environment Classified - How organisms are grouped to identify general characteristics The Way of the Dodo - A look into the extinction of organisms and how we can collect evidence from the prehistoric world Acids and Alkalis - An introduction to handling chemicals safely and the usefulness of household acids and alkalis Bubbles, Bangs and Burning - A look into the differences of chemical and physical changes, gas tests and combustion reactions What a Waste - Classifying substances by their state and the physical properties that each state possesses Rocks – An introduction into geological sciences. Pupils study into the formation of rocks and how weathering occurs. Energy and Sustainable Living - Identifying renewable and non renewable energy resources and the problems faced by the depletion of fossils fuels. Electrical Circuits - Looking at how circuits are constructed and how to stay safe around electricity Forces – An introduction as to how forces make objects move or slow them down. Pupils will also look at how specialist transport is designed for them to carry out their purposes. Light - An introduction of how light moves, how we see objects and colours Solar System and Beyond - A look at why we have seasons, how satellites orbit the Earth and the construction of the Solar system, the galaxy and the universe
