My students are working on a Housing Styles Project that I have used for a couple of years. If you use the Housing Decisions, Goodheart-Wilcox. It goes with Chapter 6. I also have a video that I have had for years and it has a good teacher guide with a worksheet and a great glossary of architectural terms. The video is The American House: A Guide to Architectural Styles from the Learning Seed. There is also an excellent PowerPoint on the DOE website thanks to Sharon and Aaron Mang that I use as well. Attached is my lesson plan and my rubric for the House Styles Project. I really enjoy this project, I even created a PowerPoint using houses in the neighborhoods around the school. I t helps the students recognize housing styles around town and then they come in and tell me the address of a really good Tudor or Queen Anne and it is a really good hands on project.
