The entire Pewamo council sends out a big thanks to the following KC men for filling vacancies: Pete Schafer (Grand Knight), Scott Schafer (Deputy Grand Knight), and Bill Thelen (Warden). It is good to see that once again noble, capable Catholic men have stepped up to lead our local Pewamo council. Here’s a brief review of the previous quarter: Back in early April, the Highway Pickup was led by Tony Thelen. Now this is one of those quiet jobs you just don’t think of, but, I can assure you that if the men involved didn’t step up and take care of this; you would know it every time you drove down M-21. Thanks guys for keeping the area clean & respectable. It reflects on Pewamo and all of us in a really big way. The Clergy Appreciation Potluck & Father Mason's Birthday was a celebration of Father Charlon Mason, the wonderful priest St. Joseph’s church has been blessed with. This event was lead by Dan & Julie Heckman and Bill & Catherine Heckman and what a party it was. Special kudos go out to Ben & Barb Wesley for putting together a great video presentation. Many, many others were involved and a big thanks goes out to them as well. May, being the Month of Mary, featured a rosary led by the Pewamo Knights of Columbus before each weekend mass. Having the entire parish come together for a rosary is such a powerful, beautiful event. 1st Year Trustee ………..………..…..………. Kevin Schulte 2nd Year Trustee ………..……………….….... A big thanks goes out to Al & Doreen Schafer for putting this together, and especially for all of the great work Doreen does year round as a leader in the Altar Society. A Corporate Communion was held in May and this is a mass for the living and deceased KC members and their families. One is held each quarter and all KC members are encouraged to attend. The Altar Server’s Picnic was held in appreciation for the great job our local servers do at every mass. This event was led by Ron Kramer and Aaron Epkey, and these gentlemen put on an extra big festival for our local servers! A wonderful Senior Dinner was held, treating those who attended to great camaraderie and a fine meal. Mike & Mary Lou Smith and Carl & Linda Hafner did a great job leading event once again as they do multiple times during the fraternal year. June began with the St. Joseph’s Field Day which certainly is a great time for our young parishioners. Bill Heckman did a great job putting this event together. The Haven Breakfast is a KC sponsored breakfast at The Haven Youth Facility associated with Holy Cross Children Services. A special big huge thanks goes out to Carl & Linda Hafner who so graciously jumped in and saved the day, after previously scheduled volunteers canceled at the last minute. All of the activities from the past quarter have many other workers involved; too many to list here. Pewamo KC Council 8071 sends many, many thanks to each of them. The publishing of this newsletter will conclude my time as Grand Knight for Pewamo council #8071. It was an honor and privilege to serve. Please let me take a moment to give hardy and robust thanks to everyone for all of the help. I apologize if there was anyone I failed to thank in the newsletters. I strived to recognize all those who led activities and made contributions, yet I was amazed how with each newsletter issue I ran out of space. There are just so many great Knights who will jump in and help at a moment’s notice and get the job done! St. Joseph’s is truly a wonderful parish and our Knight council has got to be one of the best around! Yours in Christ, Douglas J. Schafer Grand Knight * 2010 KC Knight of Year & Family of the Year* Summertime brings many wonderful things; warm weather, fun in the sun, and the KC Family & Knight of year. He attends most meetings and is the primary organizer behind the Highway Pick-up and Free Throw Contests. He has been involved in the majority of the KC activities and several other parish events for a long time. There aren’t many events Bill does not help out with. He even volunteered to lead the Texas Hold’em event just 2 days after having surgery. This guy works very hard for the entire community, and is a great example of the strong leadership and giving-of-self attitude that makes the Knights of Columbus the stellar, family oriented organization it is. Thanks again, Bill!!! The 2010 Family of the Year is the Tony & Stephanie Feldpausch family. The Tony & Stephanie Feldpausch family do so many things for St. Joseph’s church, as well as the Knights of Columbus. Tony was a Grand Knight here in Pewamo and has been the KC’s Pro-Life chairman for several years. Tony recently took on the position of Co-Chairman for the KC Pie Sale, during the challenging expansion to a multiple KC council operation. The entire family helped make this a great success. Tony & Stephanie also teach Natural Family Planning to couples in St. Joseph’s and the surrounding parishes. Their children are involved in many church activities. They are truly a great example of a good Catholic family. Thanks again, Tony & Stephanie!!! 25 to Oct 3 …….
