What Is Your Emotional Intelligence? an inventory on Emotional Abilities Daniel Goleman, a Harvard University professor, believes having a high "emotional intelligence" is critical for your success in the world. Emotional Intelligence appears to be an important set of psychological abilities that relate to life success. Daniel Goleman’s provocative book, Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More than IQ for Character, Health and Lifelong Achievement posed the theory that it is empathy and communication skills as well as social and leadership skills that will be central to your success in life and personal relationships. Rather than a high IQ, Goleman purports that it is far better to have a high E-IQ, emotional intelligence, if you want to be a valued and productive member of our society. Daniel Goleman argues that men particularly need to develop emotional skills and gives many examples of men with high intelligence that were not successful because they had problems with their people skills. He found from his research that poor emotional competencies led to poor marriage relationships and unproductive work relationships. I.
