A special feature of this year’s festival is the Fancy Painted Decoy National Championship, one of the most popular categories for noted carvers and painters of this American art form. Robert Steiner, America’s foremost duck stamp artist and winner of the 2013 Federal duck stamp contest, will also be on hand at the event. Master carvers will lead an advanced painting techniques demonstration, a “how to” antique-your-work session, as well as a workshop on the intricate art of constructing bird legs and feet. Workshops for novices are also offered for those who share a love of all things wildlife. The second longest running decoy carving festival in the nation, the event benefits the Pacific Flyway Decoy Association’s education programs that emphasize the beauty of our native bird population and the original American art form of decoy carving, right here in the heart of the Pacific Flyway.
