After the Passing of Tony (Dad), I have decided to do something that I consider
courageous. However; for me to complete what I set out to do I will need the help of
each and every one of you. I am going to complete this fundraising campaign and finish
the below mentioned marathon in the memory of “DAD”.
What you may ask have I done? Well let me tell you. I have joined the Leukemia
and Lymphoma Society’s “Team in Training”. What is the Team in Training you might
ask? Well here is some information about the Society, and some information about TNT.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society: is a national voluntary health agency dedicated
to curing leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and to improving the
quality of life of patients and their families. The Society was established in 1949 as The
de Villiers Foundation. In 2000, the Society changed its name from The Leukemia
Society of America to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to emphasize its commitment
to fighting all blood cancers.
Team in Training® History: Team In Training (TNT) began in 1988, when Bruce
Cleland of Rye, NY formed a team that raised funds and trained to run the New York
City Marathon in honor of Cleland's daughter Georgia, a leukemia survivor. The team of
38 runners raised $322,000 for the Society's Westchester/Hudson Valley Chapter.
Because of the pioneering efforts of Cleland and the Westchester/Hudson Valley Chapter,
Team In Training was born and has grown into the world's largest endurance sports
training program. Cleland was honored by Runner's World magazine in 2004 as one of
their "Heroes of Running" for his role in establishing TNT.
Marathon Date and Time:
The Walt Disney World® Marathon will take place on Sunday, January 8, 2006 at 6:00
a.m. Run through all four Walt Disney World® Theme Parks starting at Epcot®,
continuing on to the Magic Kingdom® Park, Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park,
Disney-MGM Studios and then back to Epcot® for an exhilarating finish. The Marathon
is set on a 26.2 mile course.
This is where your help is needed. My individual fundraising goal is $3,000.00. This
donation will be used for research, patient aid, education and service in the community.
Here are some suggestions towards donating.
$1.00 per mile = $26.20 Donation
$2.00 per mile = $52.40 Donation
$3.00 per mile = $78.60 Donation
$4.00 per mile = $104.80 donation
Please note that you can make any size donation as you wish.
Checks should be made payable to: Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Checks should be mailed back to me using enclosed return envelope.
