Thank you for your interest in becoming a UWSOM family medicine clerkship site. In order to
better understand your site, the resources and services that it provides we ask that you answer the
questions below and email this document back to us at MKEEN@UW.EDU.

1. Can you accommodate students throughout the year?
Yes
1.b If you are not able to accommodate students throughout the year can you accommodate
them during the first two and final blocks of the academic year (usually July-September
and May-June)?
2. Would you be able to (either now or in future) accommodate two students at one time for
some clerkship rotations? Currently there are 8 rotations each year each 6 weeks long.
Potentially – depends on housing budget available.
3. What do you see as the site’s specific strengths/weaknesses in regards to having a
clerkship student?
Strengths – high quality physician group with positive culture and collaboration with other
physicians, associate providers (PAs/ ARNPs), and staff. Sense of dedication to the
community. Full spectrum family medicine with inpatient/ outpatient continuity.
Weaknesses – minimal OB, expensive and limited housing.
4. What course goals and objectives will be difficult for the student to meet at your site?
None!
5. What is the make-up of your practice’s patient population? OB? Geriatrics? Peds?
Payor Mix?
Minimal OB, lots of pediatrics and geriatrics. Our payer mix is 38% commercial, 30% Medicare,
25% Medicaid, 5% self pay, 2% worker’s compensation.
6. Who will serve as the Site Director (you can name one or two faculty co-directors)?
Site Directors are required to attend the mandatory faculty development (4 days each year).
They are also responsible for orientation, curricular oversight, giving feedback to students,
and timely submission of grades?

7. We require sites to have at least one “continuity preceptor” who works with the student
at least 30% of the time. Is there someone who can serve as a continuity preceptor for each
rotation (this role can rotate from rotation to rotation)?

8. Is the nursing and administrative staff supportive of having medical students on site?
Yes
9. Can you identify a staff person who can serve as an administrative liaison / coordinator of
students at your site? The administrative coordinator is responsible for orientation,
housing, communications with student and billing UW for housing costs, faculty stipend
and travel expenses?

10. Does your site use an Electronic Health Record? If yes, how would the student use it?
Yes, the student would have “read only” access to the EMR.
11. Are there other features (both positive and negative) of your clinic, community, etc.
which were not included in the application?
Positive - we are located in a beautiful National Scenic Area with a vibrant rural community!
Negative – our clinics are located 30 minutes apart, so students will need to have their own
transportation.
12. What concerns do you and your partners have about your clinic's ability to participate
in the teaching program?
Potential negative impact on clinician productivity, and extra significant expenses that may be
incurred by the practice to support students.
