INCUMBENT
ROLE PURPOSE
The Project Officer, Manufacturing Strategy is responsible for providing a range of expert
coordination and support services which ensure the effective development, review, promotion and
implementation of programs and industry-led initiatives that achieve the Manufacturing Works
strategy and support an increase in the value, performance, competitiveness, capability and
capacity of SA’s manufacturing industries.
ROLE OUTCOMES
1.
Project and program coordination, support and services are delivered, in collaboration with
program and project managers and stakeholders, to ensure the effective development, review,
promotion and implementation of strategies that support an increase in the value,
performance, competitiveness, capability and capacity of SA’s manufacturing industries.
2.
High level meetings, community forums and functions are planned and coordinated with the
efficient and timely organisation of venues, catering and travel, and the preparation and
distribution of program documents, agendas, reference material, minutes and progress
reports.
3.
Pro-active and collaborative relationships and networks with key agency, industry and
government stakeholders are developed and maintained to encourage their contribution to the
development and implementation of manufacturing strategies, and associated programs and
projects.
4.
Research is undertaken to support the identification, analysis and address of risks,
opportunities, gaps and issues that impact on the development, implementation and
achievement of innovative strategies for SA’s manufacturing industries.
5.
Coordination is delivered for the collection, management and dissemination of information and
data relating to SA’s manufacturing industries, and associated strategies, programs, projects
and targets, to support senior level planning and decision making processes, and support the
delivery of compliant and effective information management standards and requirements.
6.
Timely advice is delivered on manufacturing strategic issues and trends, including the
preparation of position and discussion papers, Ministerial briefing notes, speech notes, cabinet
submissions.
7.
Diverse stakeholders are motivated to work together as a team to achieve objectives and
positive representation of, and contribution to, the achievement of Departmental goals.
8.
Contribution is made to effective trade development and investment attraction in line with the
South Australia Strategic Plan targets and Departmental strategies.
9.
Compliance with Government legislation, Code of Ethics for the SA Public Sector, DMITRE
policies and procedures, including ethical/accountable resources and information
management, WHS and injury management, risk management, and equity/diversity strategies
of the public sector.

RELATIONSHIPS
1
Reports to the Manufacturing Manager and supports the work of the Manufacturing and
Innovation Division
2
Provides advice to staff across the Department and external customers.
3
Works closely with other DMITRE officers in the promotion of Team objectives.
4
Liaises with State, Local and Commonwealth Government agencies, industry associations, and
where applicable community groups, SA enterprises and private sector companies, potential
investors, universities, unions, and Regional Development Boards.
QUALIFICATIONS
1
Essential – Nil.
2
Desirable - Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or Business
Management.
TECHNICAL EXPERTISE
1
Detailed knowledge of project management processes and systems.
2
An understanding of manufacturing industry development policies, processes and initiatives
within South Australia.
3
Strong skills in, and understanding of, computer based technologies, concepts and the
applications within a Microsoft Windows / MS Office environment, including the use of
spreadsheets and databases.

Identify, analyse and address complex issues and make sound judgments in the application
of policies and procedures.

Model PS Act public sector principles and practices, ethical decision making, WHS and injury
management, equity/diversity strategies, and change management.
Experience in –
Planning and delivering complex projects that support the efficient operation of a sensitive

and high level work environment.

Conducting detailed research and analysis to inform the address of complex issues,
including providing expert advisory and consultation services
7
Monitoring project and program resources and providing guidance to staff.
8
Managing the delivery of confidential information management, online and administrative
support functions including arranging significant events and preparing minutes, agenda’s and
supporting materials.
