POST 16 TRANSPORT SUMMARY
The Knowsley Post 16 Transport Statement provides detailed information
about transport provision to Knowsley Community College and All Saints and
Halewood College Sixth forms, as well as how to access financial support.
The Statement should be the main reference guide for information about
transport. To access the detailed Post 16 Transport Statement please visit
the Knowsley website at:
http://www.knowsley.gov.uk/families/education-and-schools/school-andcollege-grants/travel-support.aspx
This document summarises the information contained in the Post 16
Transport Statement.
1.
Discounted bus passes
Merseytravel offers a range of student term time tickets. The cost depends on
the area you travel to and your age, e.g. a single zone ticket (which will suit
the majority of students) will cost £67.50 per term (price correct at time of
publication).
Arriva North West offers a ‘16+ Student Card’ and a ‘Student Saver Card’.
Both cards offer reduced fares across Merseyside and Lancashire.
2.
Knowsley Community College Students
If you are a full time student at Knowsley Community College you can apply
for reimbursement of the cost of a Merseytravel SOLO ticket if you live more
than 3 miles from the college. The payments are means tested and the
amount paid is based on the type of income and the level of your attendance,
e.g. if you receive EMA and you have more than 80% attendance you will be
entitled to a refund of 80% of the cost of the termly ticket.
3.
Students attending out of borough colleges or schools
If you choose to attend a college / sixth form outside of the Knowsley borough
you should contact the Student Services section in your college for
information about any financial support they offer to students. It is your
responsibility to make your own travelling arrangements to college or sixth
form, including the costs associated with travelling. A summary of the main
colleges’ policies is outlined below.
Liverpool Community College
In order to qualify for travel support, all learners must fulfil the attendance
requirements. You may be entitled to support if you are aged 16 – 18, live in
Merseyside, your home is more than one mile away and you receive a means
tested benefit.
St Helens Community College
Contact Student Services in the College for more information about transport
services. You can also purchase a Merseytravel term time ticket or Arriva
ticket as outlined in paragraph 1.
Carmel College
Carmel College subsidises various bus routes to college, including the ‘700’
series of dedicated buses contracted by Merseytravel, or you can purchase a
Merseytravel Term time or Arriva ticket as outlined in paragraph 1.
Riverside College, Halton
Discounted bus passes are available to students attending Riverside College.
The tickets are either single operator for use on Arriva or Halton Transport
buses, or ‘Student Hopper’ tickets for use within any local bus service in
Halton.
Hugh Baird College
Students may be eligible to apply for help from the college’s Learner Support
Fund towards transport costs. You can also purchase a Merseytravel term
ticket or Arriva ticket as outlined in paragraph 1.
Please note that there is no funding available from Knowsley. It is in
your own interests therefore to ensure that you are able to access a
course outside the borough and that you can pay the travel costs to and
from college.
4.
Special Educational Needs (SEN) provision
The Elms and Springfield Students
If you are attending either The Elms or Springfield special schools, transport
will continue to be provided for you until you leave school if this is appropriate
for your needs.
Knowsley Community College Students
If you have a learning difficulty and / or a physical difficulty that prevents you
from accessing a course at college you may be entitled to additional help with
your transport costs to attend a full time course at Knowsley Community
College.
Students attending college out of the Knowsley borough
If you choose to attend a college outside Knowsley you will not be entitled to
receive financial support for transport to college unless there are exceptional
circumstances. You should contact your college for information about any
support they can offer to you.
Students aged 19+
If you are over age 19 on 1 September and you are attending a full time
course of study you may be entitled to receive transport support from the
Adult Care Team in Knowsley Social Services.
