deCODE genetics Post-doctoral Research Fellows in Statistical Genetics We are seeking to appoint several post-doctoral research fellows in statistical genetics to join Dr. Augustine Kong’s statistics group at deCODE genetics. The successful applicant will form part of a team working to understand the role of common and rare variants in complex diseases using genome-wide association scan and whole-genome sequence data. These positions will be based at deCODE genetics, Reykjavik. deCODE is embarking on a large scale whole-genome sequencing project. Data generated through that project together with the wealth of phenotypic information and the ability to phase the genomes of Icelanders allows for association analysis of sequence variants with frequency as low as 0.1% with over 300 different human traits. The successful candidate will be appointed as part of the Statistics Department of deCODE and will have overall responsibility for the analysis of defined parts of this high-profile study. In addition to having a leadership role in the data analyses performed for specific traits, there would also be many opportunities for methodology development. The successful candidate should have experience in analysis of large-scale genetic and genomic data sets and a relevant postgraduate degree (such as in computer science or statistics). Applicants must be competent users of the GNU/Linux operating system and programming experience in one or more languages such as Perl, C/C++, Java, and R, is essential. The posts available are for 3 years, with possibility of extension. Excellent facilities are available at deCODE and there is a strong commitment to personal and professional development at deCODE. Applications, including a full CV, the names and addresses of at least two referees, and a cover letter setting out, with examples, how you meet the selection criteria, should be sent to careers@decode.is or kong@decode.is. Informal enquiries can be made to kong@decode.is. The closing date for applications is 30th July 2010
