MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING Between Clemson University North Carolina State University University of Georgia Regarding Regional Orchard and Vineyard Floor Vegetation Management Specialist ********************************** MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING For Regional Orchard and Vineyard Floor Vegetation Management Specialist Whereas, weeds are one of the Worst pests in tree fruit crops and vineyards in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia; Whereas, each land grant institution in these states has an ever increasing demand from growers for extension and research information on orchard and vineyard floor management; Whereas no single state university in the region is capable of meeting the demand for orchard and vineyard floor vegetation management information; Whereas, the Regiona1 Orchard and Vineyard Floor Vegetation Management Specialist can develop and disseminate information on orchard floor vegetation management which will assist growers in developing weed control programs for tree fruit crops and vineyards, and reduce the impact of weeds on the quality and yield of these crops. Now, therefore, the parties agree as fol1ows: A. Institutional Commitment. a) To jointly undertake the establishment of a Regional Orchard and Vineyard Floor Vegetation Management Specialist position as per attached position description. b) To establish administrative support of this Regional Orchard and Vineyard Floor Vegetation Management Specialist position. c) To jointly agree to the attached budget for personnel and operations. d) Annua1 evaluation of performance to be conducted jointly by North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia coordinated by the Head of the Horticultural Sciences Department at North Carolina State University. B. Publications. a) Publications would be jointly owned by the states involved. b) The Regional Orchard and Vineyard Floor Vegetation Management Specialist will participate in publications relating to Orchards and Vineyard Management. C. Effective Date and Termination. a) From January 1, 2003 to January 1, 2008 b) The Memorandum of Understanding will be subject to renewal in 2008. State University University of Georgia TOTAL $15,000 $15,000 $15,000 $45,000 * Annual salary adjustments will be factored into institutional shares and will be based upon funding availability by the North Carolina Legislature. ___________________________________________________________________________ Position Description This position will be a 75% appointment with responsibilities to provide overall direction and leadership in orchard and vineyard floor management in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. Will conduct an applied research and extension program that includes evaluating orchard and vineyard floor management programs, and will provide support to county extension faculty by writing appropriate extension publications, participating in field days, onfarm demonstrations and in-service training events. Will also be responsible for IR-4 field residue trials in tree fruit and vineyards.
