Crime and Punishment Project Time (Yippee!) Honors English 12 Mrs. Dibble Choice One – Character Chart to help us memorize those crazy Russians – this should be illustrated and be very detailed. (Think descriptions and actions that we should know about.) Choice Two – Research the Criminal Element in Russia at the time of the novel. What kinds of crimes were common? What were the punishments? What were the prison conditions? Then compare this to the Criminal Elements of both Europe and America. Prepare posters (or something) to teach your information to the class. Choice Three – Create an illustrated time line that covers Parts I – III and present this to the class. (Two of you can work together to do this) Choice Four – Research the Russian Culture and share this with us. Talk about home lives, education, recreation. P.S. There’s nothing we like better about culture than food. This would probably be a good PowerPoint project. (Partner Project) Choice Five – Accumulate articles from our local paper and create a scrapbook of local/regional/nationwide crime and punishments. Draw conclusions about how our country handles crime. Choice Six – Create Facebook pages for three of the major characters. This is an individual project but two of you may choose it. Choice Seven – Create a soundtrack of at least 10 songs that could accompany Crime and Punishment. Be able to explain your rationale for the choices that you made. Make the soundtrack cover as well. You can not choose this if you did it for Othello. (Individual Project, but two of you may choose it.) Choice Eight – Create an illustrated time line that covers Parts IV- end of novel and present this to the class. (Two of you can work on this) Choice Nine – Do we get another original song to help us remember the key points? I think we need one! Of course, I do not want the same song birds from Othello to rock out on this. (Group Project – up to four) Choice Ten – Reenact a major scene from one of the Sections. Film this and show to class. (Group Project – up to four) Choice Eleven – The Interview – Imitate a famous interviewer (Oprah ex.) and interview Raskolvokov. Tape the interview. What kinds of questions would she ask? What would be the answers? Be tough, be incisive. Find out the true motivations. (Two or three of you can do this.)
