STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (c) OF UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 1220 BY SHRIMATI KANIMOZHI TO BE ANSWERED IN RAJYA SABHA ON 16.08.2013 REGARDING RAILWAY WORKS UNDER MADURAI DIVISION. (a): Railway projects are not sanctioned State-wise/District-wise/Division-wise. However, details of pending gauge conversion projects falling fully/partly in the State of Tamil Nadu including the year of inclusion in the Budget are given as under:Name of project Dindigul-Pollachi-Palghat & Pollachi-Coimbatore gauge conversion (225 Km) Year of inclusion in the Budget 2006-07 Status On this project, work on 181 Km. section has already been completed and balance 44 Km. including 32 Km. in Kerala area is likely to be completed by 31.03.2014. Mayiladuturai-Tiruvarur- 2007-08 Karaikudi & TiruturaipundiAgastiyampalli gauge conversion (224 km) On this project, Mayiladuturai-Tiruvarur section (38 Km) has already been completed and work on balance portion is likely to be completed in next 4-5 years as the section involves difficult terrain and availability of funds is limited. Madurai-Bodinayakkanur gauge conversion (90.41 Km) 2008-09 Work on long lead items including bridges have been taken up. No target date for completion of this project is fixed. Mettupalayam-Udagamandalam (45 Km) meter gauge line is declared as heritage line and thus, its gauge conversion is not sanctioned. (b): No new project for New Line, Gauge Conversion and Doubling falling fully/partly in Madurai Division were announced/included in the budget in 2009. (c): Does not arise. ****
