Oxford Business Network Positions
1.0 Positions
The following suggested positions and their descriptions are broad guidelines. The Oxford Business
Network will work as an integrated unit, with each member contributing across his/her strengths, while
taking responsibility for his/her specific functional area. The number of positions to be filled will depend on
the size of the Network and the group is welcome to create additional positions if necessary. The
minimum number of officers should be three, comprising Chair, Alumni Chair and Vice Chair. The Alumni
Chair is the Network Chair from the previous year.
2.0 Chair
Responsibilities



Leads the Oxford Business Network team – collaborates to set the vision and execution timetable
for the year
Responsible for achieving plans and meeting commitments made by the Network
Institutionalises a legacy of contacts, processes, and yearly calendar for future batches to learn
from and build upon
In order to formalise the process of handing-over to the next Oxford Business Network committee, the
position of Chair is a two-year tenure. The Chair commits to


Collating and submitting via the AR Office, information to be passed on to the next group
S/he is required to be available or to arrange for another committee member to take part in
presentations to the new class as needed. If neither the Chair nor other nominated committee
member is able to attend these events in person, then email/phone contact should be initiated
following the AR Office’s introduction of the Oxford Business Network during induction
At the start of the second year the position becomes that of:
Alumni Chair



S/he commits to reasonable email and telephone contact throughout the year
To attend any events planned by the current group if possible
To strengthen the Oxford Business Network links with alumni by retaining wherever possible the
interest and involvement of other group alumni members
3.0 Vice-Chair (VC)
The below are examples of VCs that past groups have deemed to be of benefit. Please note each
group must elect at least one VC.
3.1 Vice Chair – Communications

Creates and maintains a GroupSpaces site for the Oxford Business Network that allows the
groups to manage themselves
Ensures regular and accurate dissemination of communications amongst all stakeholders, most
notably the Alumni Relations Office
Works with the Chair to assemble all information to be transferred to the incoming class
Works with the Chair and VC of events in all matters relating to event promotion
3.2 Vice Chair – Careers
 Works in conjunction with the VC for events to coordinate career panels, which may include
alumni, faculty and/or other external practitioners within an industry
 Plans and schedules opportunities for students to practice case studies and interview prep. Alumni
of the OBA Network may be of benefit here. The Careers Centre also offers opportunities for
interview prep and case study work
 Builds a comprehensive and accessible knowledge base on the case study interview, including
possible approaches and techniques
3.3 Vice Chair – Events
 Plans and executes events, which may include the following formats:
 Company visit
 Speaker
 Speaker with drinks reception
 Speaker with dinner
 Masterclass
 Forum or panel – multiple speakers
 Conference
 The VC for events will be in charge of sourcing the venue, ensuring the costs are appropriately
budgeted, ensuring the date of the event does not conflict with other important School- or studentled events and includes a broad audience, preferably of alumni, students and other external
constituencies
3.4 Vice Chair - Research
 Creates and maintains a comprehensive and accessible data-set of relevant firms’ specialties by
function and industry. It may be helpful to collate this information across multiple geographies as
students begin their job search
 Supports VC for Careers
