The Workshop
Dr. Richard Erskine
This five-day workshop is for
psychotherapists and counsellors
who want to refine both
theoretical understanding and
clinical methods in Integrative
and Relational Psychotherapy,
through either supervision or their
own personal explorations in
psychotherapy. Emphasis will be
placed on the clinical
application of theoretical
concepts, refining clinical skills,
effective utilization of relational
methods, and the intersubjective
use of countertransference, the
client’s relational needs, and
treatment planning.
In 1972, as a professor at the University of
Illinois, Dr. Erskine developed the initial
concepts of Integrative Psychotherapy.
By 1976 he established the Institute for
Integrative Psychotherapy in New York
City and, along with members of the
Professional Development Seminars,
continued the development, research
and refinement of a relational and
integrative psychotherapy.
Dr. Erskine may demonstrate the
in-depth methods of a
psychotherapy that integrates
the client’s affect, cognition,
physiology and behavior. The
themes of this residential
workshop may include Life
Scripts, unconscious prereflective patterns, nonverbal
communication, introjection and
physiological survival reactions.
Various methods of working
within an involved therapeutic
relationship, supportive
regression, and/or a caring body
therapy may be taught and
demonstrated.
He is the Training Director at the Institute
for Integrative Psychotherapy and is a
clinical psychologist with four decades
of experience in the clinical practice
and teaching of psychotherapy.
He has specialized in the treatment of
severely disturbed children and run a
therapeutic community in a maximum
security prison.
For more than 40 years he has
conducted an adult psychotherapy
practice specializing in the treatment of
borderline and narcissistic clients,
dissociation, obsession, schizoid
processes.
He is a licensed Psychoanalyst, certified
Transactional Analyst, internationally
recognized Gestalt Therapist, and a
certified Group Psychotherapist.
He is the author of five books and
numerous articles on the practice of
psychotherapy. His most popular
books include:
