An exciting Permanent Full-Time opportunity as a Psychotherapist is available at the Brief Psychotherapy Centre for Women at Women’s College Hospital, reporting to the self-managed team. Summary of Duties, but not limited to: The Brief Psychotherapy Centre for Women (BPCW) is the only publicly funded first-line community-based, non-medical, brief feminist relational-cultural psychotherapy service for women by women in the province. It serves a broad range of women’s needs in a social context and serves women with recurrent and long-standing problems. Since its inception in 1988, the Brief Psychotherapy Centre for Women has operationalized the principle of empowerment of women in its service. The BPCW incorporates women’s health values into all aspects of its work, including the clinical, organizational, educational and research components. The team at the Centre developed and implemented the clinical and organizational model of the BPCW. A self-managed team manages the BPCW both clinically and administratively. The role of the Psychotherapist includes but is not limited to: Provide individual and group psychotherapy using the BPCW model Prescreen self-referred clients by telephone for brief psychotherapy Assess the circumstances and needs of women clients and appropriateness of clients for admission to program, establish psychotherapy goals and objectives and provide referrals if necessary Assess risk for personal safety, self-harm and suicide, and facilitate appropriate interventions and safety plans Provide other resources to clients for whom the service is unsuitable Provide orientations to new clients and follow-up at three months and one year Provide booster and bridging sessions to clients as required Liaise with other health care professionals and agencies at client’s request Evaluate the need for consultation/referral to other mental health or community resources, initiate necessary referrals and provide reports and other documentation as requested by clients Provide a safe, confidential, non-institutional environment Respond to any client complaints in keeping with BPCW & WCH Policies and Procedures Peer supervision/consultation (Present and discuss clients with clinical team and participate in collaborative case discussions) Maintain documentation, record keeping and confidentiality in keeping with BPCW & WCH Policies and Procedures Review client files and read case related literature Maintain and update clinical knowledge and skills based on current knowledge in specialty areas Plays a role in acting as an advocate for safety and will demonstrate principles, practices and processes that will optimize a safe environment for all. Conduct administrative and management duties within the scope of the self-directed team. Qualifications/Skills: Masters degree accompanied by a minimum of 5 years experience in a mental health setting required Advanced skills in Individual and group psychotherapy (open-ended and brief) includes exceptional assessment skills and analytical skills Expertise and ability to work collaboratively and non-defensively in self managed, innovative team while functioning in a self-directed manner Knowledge of feminist relational theories Ability to deal comfortably with women’s issues (e.g. violence, health, racism, sexism etc..) Some background in program planning, program evaluation and research Must be flexible, innovative, and creative Administrative and organizational skills Teaching skills Ability to develop strong community liaisons and networks and maintain these connections. Outstanding written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills Work independently and is self-motivated, self-directed while possessing the ability to work in a collaborative manner Strong multi-tasking, and time management skills and the ability to respond rapidly to emerging tasks in a deadline-oriented environment This position plays a critical role in acting as an advocate for safety and will demonstrate principles, practices and processes that will optimize a safe environment for all.
