Job title: Regional Director Asia Pacific
Department / Business Stream: Communications and Customer Relationships / CIE
Location: Asia Pacific Region, based in Singapore
Reports to: Director, Communications and Customer Relationships / CIE
Purpose of the job:
To head up University of Cambridge International Examinations’ activities within the Asia Pacific
region. The role is primarily about growth within the region which is anticipated to double, in terms
of revenue, in the next five years. The role is wide ranging, but has overall responsibility for all of
the activities and operations within the offices and personnel, based in Singapore and Malaysia
and all personnel in the Asia Pacific Region.
Principal Accountabilities:
Responsible for the maintenance and growth of our market share within the region - currently in the
region of £10 million per annum which has the potential grow to more than £20 million per annum
in the next five years. This role includes leading on the business development strategy and its
implementation to grow the take up of our programmes and qualifications in the region which will
have a positive impact on our bottom line; as well as the identification and strategic response to
business opportunities which could influence our business results significantly (some contracts are
anticipated to be £multi million).
The role is to provide visionary leadership with responsibility for a remote team of eight staff
including Senior Schools Development Managers and Schools Development Managers. This
involves senior managerial functions such as directing and controlling resources including the
setting of the team’s targets for the acquisition of new customers and the development of existing
customers; recruiting and managing staff to head up our presence within each country. This
ensures that we achieve our business results over time. As well as responsibility for two offices
within the region – Singapore and Malaysia.
To be the regional ambassador for Cambridge – this will involve specialist knowledge about our
markets, assessment and the wider-educational landscape. This may involve:
 speaking at conferences as the key note speaker on assessment and education in an
international context
 negotiating the recognition of our qualifications with ministries of education in our key
countries
 chairing advisory committees with groups of influential customers
 leading conferences and seminars with large groups of our customers to discuss topical
educational issues and their impact on the region
 negotiating with potential business partners on business opportunities within the region
 raising and protecting the reputation of Cambridge within the region.
The role will lead the development of strategy for a number of key areas including:
 schools development
 communications
 training
 recognition
This will require developing and leading the relationships with key stakeholders in the region. To

bodies, the media, partners (British Council), Ministries of Education, our associates and our
school customers.
To take responsibility for identifying potential risks to the business in the region, monitoring the
development status of such risks, keeping a risk register, making recommendations for appropriate
contingency planning and ensuring that head office is aware of potentially serious risks.

The role will require flexibility of approach due to the geography and time zones. The Regional
Director is expected to travel frequently and will work the hours required to fulfil the duties of the
