FREEDOM OF THE TOWN To consider for approval the grant of honour of Freedom of the Town In accordance with S249 of the 1972 Local Government Act (as amended by s180 of the Local Government, Planning and Land Act 1980 and Chapter 5 of the ‘Local Democracy, Economic Development and Construction Act 2009’); “persons who have, in the opinion of the authority, rendered eminent services to that place or area”; to the Royal Regiment of Artillery in recognition of the service they have given to the town and community of Trowbridge and in accordance with the in principle resolution of the council at its meeting in May which RESOLVED: To approve, in principle, the award of the Freedom of the Town in 2014 to the Royal Regiment of Artillery, which comprises all Regiments of the Royal Horse Artillery and the Royal Artillery, and in so doing, grants to the Royal Regiment of Artillery, the right to exercise the grant of such an award by parading through the Town of Trowbridge, with Colours displayed, Drums beating and Bayonets fixed.
