People credited with this unit standard are able to demonstrate knowledge of the construction and operation of water jet units, and water jet unit servicing requirements. Performance criteria 1.1 Types of water jet unit propulsion systems are identified in accordance with service information. Range 1.2 Features of water jet unit propulsion are identified in accordance with service information. Range 1.3 vertical, horizontal. shallow draft operation, manoeuvrability, no external propellers, complete drive train, safety, propulsion, hull design requirements. Constructional features of water jet units are identified in accordance with service information. Range materials, impellers, bearings, steering and reversing, venturi pumping system, coupling system; single stage unit, two stage unit, three stage unit. 1.4 Sealants and lubricants for water jet units are identified in accordance with service information. 1.5 Operation of water jet units are described in accordance with service information. Range water flow through unit, producing a jet stream, increasing water velocity, use of an electronic control system interface. Element 2 Demonstrate knowledge of water jet unit servicing requirements. Performance criteria 2.1 Installation requirements for water jet units are identified in accordance with service information. Range 2.2 hydraulics, reverse, steering. Filtration for unit cooling is identified in accordance with service information. Range checking for damage, checking operation, repairing steering controls, replacing unit components, using sealants and lubricants. Please note Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
