International chair in Marine Ecology and Biogeochemistry
LabexMER – IUEM Brest – France
LabexMER is enthusiastically inviting applications for an international chair in Marine Ecology and
Biogeochemistry.
This chair aims to promote research on both the (physio) ecological processes and the marine
ecosystem functioning on the biogeochemical cycles, using modelling and/or experimental
approaches.
The person entitled to the chair should bring expertise in scientific areas related to the biological
pump, such as the links between the ecological/physiological processes and the composition
and the fate of organic/particulate matter for a better understanding of the mechanisms which
drive the major biogeochemical fluxes, including trace metals.
The applicants should have an international recognition and a significant publication record in
biogeochemistry and marine ecology.
One of the potential pathways to tackle these questions could rely on experimental approaches, such
as mesocosm studies or meso/epi pelagic observations. The development of models will represent
one of the expected outcomes of this chair, either directly by using a modeling approach, or
collaboration with the LABEX modelling team.
The chair is set up for a duration of three years. It is awarded with a grant of 200,000 €/year. These
funds include the salary of the successful candidate. Part of this funding may also be used for
equipment purpose, operating costs and costs related to personnel hired on a fix-termed contract
basis that cannot exceed the duration of the project.
Applicants should send one single PDF document that includes a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a
statement of research accomplishments, 2 letters of recommendation and a research plan for the
duration of the chair addressing the scientific questions and objectives above mentioned. All the
information shall be e-mailed directly to the address below. The applicants are strongly encouraged to
get more information on research axis 2 and 6 of LabexMER (http://www.labexmer.eu/research).
