ML/LP 05/14 May 2014 Message from Paul Annual Exhibition 2014! Already May, in that case, may I take this opportunity to thank everyone for their continued support and hard work! Could you spare a bit of time for the Annual Exhibition on Tuesday 24th June? We are looking for help from 8am with setting up to 4pm to dismantle and everything inbetween! If you can spare an hour or two at any point in the day it would really help us out. We are putting together the rota at the moment so please get in touch with Paul if you can join us on the day. Things are really hotting up now with exhibitions, social trips, new coffee mornings, volunteer presence in the Eye Clinics at Herts & Essex as well as Broomfield Hospitals, fundraising and the arts & crafts and many other activities . A very busy and exciting time for us all. If you would like to get involved with any of the following, your support and the precious time you can offer would be very much appreciated. Many of you may remember that in the past I have carried out some challenging fund raising events. Unfortunately, this year due to health issues, I am going to try something a little different with a surprise! You will have to turn up on the night to share in this experience! Please see the next item for details of how you can join me on the night. Look Back in Time… and re-live the 70's! Join us on Saturday 4th October 2014 at the Saffron Walden Golf Club, for an evening of 70's food, a disco with 70's music and a cabaret provided by Johnny Dee of Radio Cambridgeshire. 70's dress is optional but very welcome! Saffron Walden and Dunmow Mornings Vanessa would like to thank everyone who continues to help make these Coffee Mornings such a success. Knitting Event In conjunction with the S4S Arts Project, and in celebration of the Tour De France, S4S will be hosting a knitting event! The event will be on June 7th, outside the S4S centre on George Street, we will be knitting red, white and blue bunting ready to hang for when the cyclists pass by on 7th July. We would like to invite everyone who can knit (or crochet) to come and join us! Bring your needles and some red, white or blue wool and we will provide patterns to work from - or we will supply tools and materials on the day if you haven't got your own. We are using dish cloth patterns to knit 7-8” squares that will first be used as bunting then, after the event, will be sold to raise money for S4S. If you prefer to knit or crochet traditional triangular bunting we will welcome that too. It’ll be a great day! Please come and support us in whatever way you can - anything from a couple of rows to a couple of cloths! Can you help us with this street collection? It’s on a Tuesday and a signup sheet is available at the centre or you can talk to Margaret direct. Please spare just an hour, more if you can, to make this collection a huge success! We need all the help we can get and all support will be worthwhile. Our other collections arranged for 2014: Sun 8th June - Collection at Scotsdales. Sat 4th October - Saffron Walden Street Collection. Raffle Prizes Do you have any items you don’t want which could be donated as raffle prizes? We have various events coming up and if you have anything which you could pass on to us, please drop them in to Margaret. Tour De France in S.Walden, 7th July On the day we will have the tandem outside, so if you fancy competing with the riders, please come along and support us and the Tour De France by having a go on the tandem. We will also have cakes, arts and craft items and our bookstall. We want to make the day as fun packed and exciting as possible! If you can spare any time on the day or help make a few cupcakes please get in touch with Margaret. Shop Front You don’t have to wait until the day to start your knitting; pictured above are some dish cloths that have already been made. Contact us if you need help finding patterns. Hospital Rota – Radwinter Road Would anyone like to try volunteering at the Radwinter Road Helpdesk on Monday mornings? We have some spaces available and training will be provided. If you are interested, please contact Paul. 12th May Christine Lelliott & Mary Scott We are currently looking to renew the sign over the door of our centre, to include our current logo. Whilst we are doing this, we would like to give the front a facelift by adding a new coat of paint. If anyone would like to get involved with preparation and painting, please let Paul know. The more people we have the quicker and easier it will be! We’re also looking for white undercoat & gloss to complete the job. So if anyone has any paint spare or knows where we might be able to get some free or for a very cheap price, please let us know. Get Well Soon Des! We’re all thinking of you Des and hope you make a full recovery very soon. We all miss you at the centre and look forward to you returning!
