POSITION OBJECTIVE(S):

 Assist in Council’s Litter Collection and Disposal programs.

Assist with the delivery of Public Works and Services programs.

Actively participate in team building and planning meetings to ensure the delivery of quality amenity maintenance programs and environmental services.

Assist t o carry out Council’s Waste and Litter and Amenity environmental services programs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

1. Assist in the operat ion of Council’s litter collection vehicles and equipment.

Conduct pre-start checks and perform routine maintenance on a daily basis in accordance with approved pre-start and post checklists and maintenance programs.

Ensure that the vehicle is cleaned and disinfected at the completion of each shift

Report any maintenance/repairs requirements to Fleet Services.

Monitor the level of supplies including personal protective equipment and the first aid kit and where necessary arrange further supplies from the City Amenity Team Leader.

2. Assist to perform Council’s environmental services and programs including collection and disposal of litter / waste.

Assist to perform environmental litter collection programs including; o Shop cleaning, o Roadside litter collection , o public open space & reserves, o smoker’s poles clearances and other programs as required.

Where necessary assist with other Public Works and Services programs in accordance with approved programs.

Carry out collection and disposal programs in accordance with Council’s safety policies and procedures.

Dispose of waste and litter collected at the Council refuse disposal sites as required.

Advise the City Amenity Team Leader of: o waste and litter is not collected and the reasons for non collection o any irregularities, vandalism or maintenance requirements in the litter collection program. o Instances of illegal dumping of waste, litter, dead animals and hazardous wastes. o any operational problems at Council’s Landfill Sites.

3. Customer Services and Administration

Comply with the quality system requirements by completing appropriate paperwork etc

Complete a daily timesheet and running sheet detailing activities for the day.

Practise public courtesy in conducting assigned duties and promoti on of Council’s

Amenity and Environmental Services.

 Assist in updating Council’s Litter Bin, Litter Collection and Smokers Poles Clearance

Schedules as required.

RISK MANAGEMENT:

Contribute to a positive risk management culture by complying with the Risk Management policy, assisting with the implementation of the Risk Management Strategy and reporting risk management concerns and improvements to managers and supervisors.

ACCOUNTABILITY AND EXTENT OF AUTHORITY:

Under the general supervision of the City Amenity Team Leader, this position is:

Authorised to conduct the day to day activities of Council ’s waste, litter collection and associated environmental services collection and disposal programs.

Assist in ensuring that the waste and litter collection vehicles are maintained in a clean condi tion and that Council’s waste and litter collection services are carried out in accordance with standards and programs determined by the Council.

Accountable for applying quality control to own work in accordance with work programs.

Accountable for informing the City Amenity Team Leader of any collection problems or irregularities in a prompt and accurate manner.

JUDGEMENT AND DECISION MAKING:

The incumbent requires the ability to use judgement and make decisions in relation to maintenance and repairs of vehicles, plant and equipment.

Guidance and advice is always available.

SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

The following specialist knowledge and skills are required to be utilised:

Hold current motor vehicle license.

Heavy vehicle license would be an advantage.

Understanding of Occupational Health and Safety requirements.

Understanding of basic repairs and maintenance of vehicles, plant and equipment.

Basic understanding of waste management and amenity maintenance services.

MANAGEMENT SKILLS:

The following management skills are required to be utilised:

Ability to carry out duties with minimal supervision.

Basic time management skills including the ability to perform required duties effectively and efficiently.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

The following interpersonal skills are required to be demonstrated:

Written and oral communication skills including the ability to communicate with members of the public and resolve minor problems in a courteous and effective manner.

 Ability to work as part of a team and participate in the promotion of Council’s amenity and environmental related programs throughout the community.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

The following qualifications and experience are required for the position:

Hold current motor vehicle licence.

Current heavy truck licence would be an advantage.
