DR. ART HISTER Dr. Art Hister graduated from McGill University in 1970. He interned at the Jewish General Hospital, and moved to Vancouver in 1971 to become the first full-time physician with the Pine Free Clinic, the first Canadian clinic established to deal exclusively with transient youth. He entered private practice in Kitsilano in 1977, but in 1991, Dr. Hister became a full-time “media doctor.” Currently, Dr. Hister is a daily health analyst on the Morning News on Global TV in BC and on CKNW’s Morning News, and he is the resident health analyst for Up All Night on BBC 5 (yes, the BBC!) as well as Global TV’s Noon News and Weekend News. To underline his passion about the importance of health prevention, Dr. Hister has become a member of the Leadership Council of ActNowBC, a government initiative whose mandate is to make British Columbia into the healthiest jurisdiction to ever host the Olympic Games. Dr. Hister appears regularly at meetings and on radio and TV on behalf of Act NowBC. Dr. Hister is the author of two Canadian bestsellers, Midlife Man and Dr. Art Hister’s Guide to a Longer and Healthier Life, as well as many articles for publications such as Reader’s Digest and The Globe and Mail. Dr. Hister has served on many boards including the founding board of Vancouver Co-op Radio, the Vancouver International Film Festival, CKNW Orphans’ Fund, the Vancouver Holocaust Society, Kids Up Front, Camp Miriam Building Fund, and CHILD (a society dedicated to eliminating bowel and liver diseases in children). Dr. Hister has been married for 38 years to Phyllis Simon, co-owner of Vancouver Kidsbooks, North America’s largest children’s bookstore, and is the obnoxiously proud father of Jonah and Tim.
