Technology-Connected Lesson Plan Title: Cultures in Louisiana Flyer Grades 7th – 8th Geography Language Arts Measurable Objectives: The students will research a country using online resources The students will use MS Publisher to create a travel flyer about the country. Students will use resources from Travel and Language http://www.travlang.com/ and Vicki Blackwell’s “Louisiana People & Culture” web page http://www.vickiblackwell.com/laculture.html to investigate other cultures in Louisiana that are not listed on the Inspiration map. Lead into a class discussion with the group by asking; “Why would immigrants choose to leave their native country and settle in a new country?” Discuss the reasons people have left their native countries during different periods in history. Students will use the sites above to continue their research on an assigned country. Allow students who know the origin of their name to use that country to complete their research. Students can use the attached “Louisiana Cultures Notetaking Guide” to guide their research for Travel and Language online resource: http://www.travlang.com/ Students can also use resources from Vicki Blackwell’s “Louisiana People & Culture” http://www.vickiblackwell.com/laculture.html to gather 3 Materials: Assessment: Teacher’s Name: School: additional information on their assigned country. Students will use their information to create a flyer for their assigned country using Microsoft Publisher. The flyer should include the following; (Students can add extra information) - Map of their country - Capital city identified - Useful phrases in target language - Currency information/Current exchange rate Microsoft Publisher – Select Flyers from the Publications to Print drop-down list. Choose the flyer you would like to customize. Add map and research information to the flyer to highlight your country. Select the Color Scheme and Font Scheme from the left task column to finalize your flyer. Allow students to print a black and white copy of their flyer to edit.
