ELEMENTARY STUDENT TEACHING APPLICATION
Congratulations! Your student teaching application is the next big step in completing the certification process. It is
essential that you represent yourself in the most professional way possible. This means turning in the most professional
application possible – spell checked, proof read and spell checked again.
When you turn in your application, it should be ready to present to the school districts. While you will meet with the
placement coordinator to discuss the application, the focus of that meeting is to discuss the desired geographical area
and/or what you are hoping to gain from your student teaching experience. The intention is not to focus on making
corrections. If your application has multiple errors or is incomplete in any way, it will not be accepted by the placement
office. It will then be considered late, which may ultimately, cause a delay in your student teaching term. Two individuals
must proofread your application, cover letter and resume.
Directions for completing this application:
1. Remember to print your Merlin transcript
2. Be sure to physically insert your cover letter, resume and philosophy statement in this packet. Be sure to have two
people proofread them.
3. Complete the mandated DCFS reporter online training at: http://northcentralcollege.edu/academics/dept-divprogs/education/mandatory-reporting-child-abuse . Students are required to print the training completion certificate as
well as the DCFS Acknowledgement of Mandated Reporter Status form
http://northcentralcollege.edu/Documents/htb/DCFS.pdf and turn them in with this application
4. Do not staple your application – please paperclip all pages together. Do not print your resume and cover letter on
resume paper – simple copy paper is fine. Please submit single sided pages – do not print on both sides.
5. Remember to sign up to meet with the placement coordinator when turning in your application.
6. Your application is due the third Monday of the term. It is due to Stadium 240 by 8:00 A.M.
Late applications will not be presented out until all other applicants in your subject area are placed.
