Tribute Art Collages began when Karin Reid Offield set out to solve a problem—a lifetime’s worth of irreplaceable photos that were both wearing with age and too numerous to display elegantly. She commissioned artist Jeffrey Paul Burger, known internationally for his expertise with digital imagery, to create a 58” x 48” tribute collage creatively showcasing 43 photos of her life’s work and the horses she loves. In the process, Burger digitally retouched many of the images back to their full glory. The finished piece, which nearly fills a wall, tells the chronological tale of Offield’s journey from her first show at age six to her first dressage champion, Rojo Grande’s Icon. After a number of Offield’s guests asked how they could commission a similar piece for their photos, she quickly realized that she had a solution to a problem common in the equine community. She and Burger then agreed to offer this artistic service as a joint venture through Offield Farms, including a website to help people arrive at the design they want for their own personal Tribute Art Collage. After consulting with a client, Burger begins each new piece by creating high-resolution digital scans of the photos provided. After performing any retouching required to counter the effects of aging, he artistically works the images into a complementary arrangement loosely based on one of several templates the client has selected from the Offield Farms website. To complete the design, Burger weaves in a background—like leather or grass— and other optional visual elements such as titles, logo and an equine-related quote. Burger renders the final Tribute Art Collage at the ordered size on either professional large-format photo paper or fine art canvas. Other options are available as well, including oversized pieces rendered onto vinyl, which can be regularly hosed down, for mammoth in-stable display. A typical collage incorporating approximately 30 photos would be rendered at 5’ x 4’ suitable for framing. Additional copies of the finished work are also available for use as gifts. “Jeffrey’s amazingly talented both in terms of his eye and his skills with digital imagery,” says Offield. “Many of my original photos were yellowed, faded and torn with age and he’s given them new life. And my wall-sized tribute collage is so much more elegant and impressive than trying to display dozens of individually framed photos. It has a presence that gives me great pride every time I look at it and it’s a constant conversation piece. My parents loved the smaller version I gave them. I also commissioned a second collage in honor of my favorite jumper, Iron Warrior. It’s a pleasure to bring this same showcase vehicle to the rest of the equine community.” “There’s a lot of passion involved in bringing these tribute pieces to life,” says Burger. “People involved with horses—particularly our clients—are so passionate about their animals and related photos. Karin is both a natural-born problem solver and an avid champion of the jumping and dressage arenas. Her passion is infectious. As for myself, each person’s career and photo legacy is different, so each commission presents me with a unique opportunity that fires my creative juices as well. My greatest satisfaction is receiving such enthusiastic response from our clients when they receive these one-of-akind works of art created just for them.” Tribute Art Collages vary in price according to size and the number of source photos they incorporate. Each commission also comes with a complementary DVD slide show of the provided photos. For further information, visit www.offieldfarms.com/tribute or call 719219-9606.
