Smoke Fire Raku *

Raku is an exciting method of firing
ceramics using copper glazes. The
bowls are taken from the kiln glowing
red and placed in leaves / sawdust to
reduce the oxygen. Plunging them
directly into water completes the
process to produce unpredictable and
often amazing results.

and how to spin it into yarn using a
drop spindle and a spinning wheel.

The process involves hooking scraps
of fabric into a Hessian background
to make exciting and colourful works
of art. Cushion covers, wall
hangings, rugs, spectacle cases,
jewellery, bags, pictures, hats – all
these can be created using the rag
work techniques. A great way to
recycle old clothes and fabrics!
