4-H HORSE AND PONY SHOW

rules from the Bureau of County Fairs.

1. Pictures and proof of ownership or lease are due in the Extension office by
June 1 for anyone that might be exhibiting at the State Fair Junior Horse Show.
2. Animals must have been owned or leased and personally cared for by the
exhibitor since June 1, 2015, and carried as part of their 4-H project. All
professional training services for any pony or horse should be done prior to
June 1, 2015. Ownership/lease papers must be available at the show.
3. Animals need not be registered.
4. All equidae must test negative for equine infectious anemia (EIA) before
participating in equine events. This test applies to all equine more than 12
months old. The animals must have been tested no more than one year prior
to the event. This will be checked at 7:30 a.m. by the veterinarian. No test
papers will result in no showing opportunities.
5. All exhibitors should wear proper Western or English attire during the show.
The judge may penalize exhibitors for improper attire and may disqualify for
unsafe wear, i.e. improper footwear (tennis shoes are not acceptable attire)
and other items deemed to be unsafe by the judge. Superintendents may also
correct anything that might endanger any exhibitor, whether it is equipment
failure or improper attire.
6. Entries must be made in person at the Extension Office by 4:00 p.m. by
June 26, 2015. No post entries. No additions to class lists after sign-up date.
7. All entries must be in the infield by Tuesday, August 4, at 7:30 a.m.
8. No stallions will be allowed.
9. Horsemanship/Equitation classes shall consist of walk/trot/lope and a pattern.
10. All animals will be released at the conclusion of the show.
11. A Champion trophy for show will be given. Points will be accumulated on
classes entered and standings per class in halter and performance. Points to
be counted on one pony in the pony division and one horse in the horse
division. If two ponies or horses are shown by one exhibitor, points will not be
combined for total for high point. Point system will be as follows: 1st place=5
points; 2nd place = 4 points; 3rd place = 3 points, 4th place = 2 points. 5th place
and down will receive 1 point and no points will be issued for showmanship.
Exhibitors must earn an “A” rating in the class to receive points for that class.

12. Horse showmanship and horsemanship/equitation are not related to pony
showmanship and horsemanship/equitation. You may enter either, or both,
and are not excluded from pony classes by winning horse classes.
13. Riding classes are 3-gaited classes.
14. Unreasonable or unnecessary delay in getting animals into the show ring will
give the Superintendent the right to exclude same from class.
15. Show order will follow showbook. Patterns will be posted at announcer stand.
16. Trail – only ONE entry per 4-H member. Pattern will be posted day of show.
17. Exhibitors are limited to two entries per class for halter classes (except
Showmanship) [ONE PREMIUM per class number is maximum allowed to be
paid]. The animals must be shown by 4-H exhibitor and any other 4-H’er
enrolled in a 4-H Horse project (in the event of two entries in a class) [ONE
PREMIUM per class number is maximum allowed to be paid].
18. Walk Trot Division will be for those with THREE years or LESS showing experience.
 CANNOT enter any class with 3-gait.
 Commitment to Walk-Trot Division will be for both horse & pony
 Once you show 3-gaited you CANNOT go back to Walk-Trot classes.
