TIM AND KATHY CLAYDEN PRIZE
FOR ANCIENT NEAR EASTERN STUDIES
The Tim and Kathy Clayden Prize for Ancient Near Eastern Studies is open to all postgraduate
students studying the Ancient Near East and enrolled for the degree of MSt, MPhil or DPhil
degree in the University of Oxford.
For the purposes of this award the Ancient Near East is defined as ancient Mesopotamia
(including Syria, south-eastern Turkey, south-western Iran and the Gulf countries) before the
Parthian period. One Prize, to the value of £600 will be awarded.
The Prize can be used towards the costs of travel, including the costs of accommodation,
subsistence, photography, photocopying, scanning etc. Preference will be given to applicants
proposing to study collections of Ancient Near Eastern material in the UK or abroad.
All applicants must provide (by email):
- Completed application form (see next page)
- Curriculum vitae (including a list of publications, if any)
- Research Proposal: a clear proposal of the work to be undertaken and how it fits into
their programme of study. The proposal is not to exceed one A4 sheet, and should
include an itemized budget. Please also list other sources of funding to which
application has been made.
