DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK
-----------------------------HURRICANE FORCE WINDS OF 135 MPH ARE PREDICTED TO MAKE
LANDFALL AT THE VIRGINIA BEACH AND NORFOLK AREA AROUND 10:00
PM. WIDESPREAD DAMAGE TO STRUCTURES ARE EXPECTED IN THE
REGION. RESIDENTS IN THE LOWER CHESAPEAKE BAY REGION ARE
ADVISED TO PREPARE TO REMAIN OUTSIDE OF THE IMPACTED AREA
FOR UP TO FIVE DAYS FOLLOWING LANDFALL.
HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND

OF 135 MPH ARE EXPECTED TO CREATE A DANGEROUS STORM SURGE IN
THE LOWER CHEASAPEAKE BAY RAISING WATER LEVELS BY AS MUCH AS
14 FEET ABOVE MEAN TIDE ALONG THE IMMEDIATE COAST NEAR AND
TO THE RIGHT OF WHERE THE CENTER MAKES LANDFALL NEAR VIRGINA
BEACH, VIRGINIA.
A MANDATORY EXVACUATION ORDER HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THE CITY
OF VIRGINIA BEACH, VIRGINIA.
WIDESPREAD DAMAGE TO STRUCTURES ARE EXPECTED IN THE HAMPTON
ROADS REGION. THE GOVERNOR OF VIRGINIA HAS ADVISED RESIDENTS
IN THE LOWER CHESAPEAKE BAY REGION OF VIRGINIA TO PREPARE TO
REMAIN OUTSIDE OF THE IMPACTED AREA FOR UP TO FIVE DAYS
FOLLOWING LANDFALL UNTIL INFRASTRUCTURE CAN BE RESTORED.
STORM TRACKING MODELS PREDICT THAT SAM WILL TAKE A
NORTHWESTERLY TRACK AFTER PASSING OVER VIRGINIA BEACH AND
MOVE INLAND OVER THE PATUXENT RIVER AND IMPACT THE SOUTHERN
MARYLAND REGION WITH SUSTAINABLE WINDS IN EXCESS OF 130 MPH
FOR UP TO FIVE HOURS. THE OUTER EDGE OF TROPICAL FORCE WINDS
OF 50 MPH OR GREATER ARE EXPECTED TO REACH UP TO 125 MILES
FROM THE EYE OF THE STORM.
