A very brief resume of Cream of the Crop Cream of the Crop originated over twenty odd years ago as a catering distributor working from New Covent Garden Market in London. Since then the company has grown in stature and in 2009 it was taken over by Premier Fruits to become the catering distribution arm of one of the largest fresh produce conglomerates in the UK. Premier Fruits have interests across the UK and abroad and has expanded year on year. However the one area of the fresh produce industry missing from their portfolio was catering distribution, and that’s where Cream of the Crop entered the picture. That was two years ago, and now Cream of the Crop is one of the premium London based distributors serving London and the South of the Country. The incorporation last year of another London based distributor to Cream of the Crop has given the company the enviable position of being able to call on a Management team that has extensive experience in Catering Distribution, and with the Premier Fruits portfolio it has created a formidable presence in the industry. We employ over seventy experience staff, all fully trained in their fields of work and we have over thirty fully refrigerated delivery vehicles ranging in size from 3.5 tons to 7.5 tons. Our distribution area currently ranges from Luton and Stevenage in the North to Canterbury and Maidstone in the East across to Oxford and Banbury in the West and Brighton and Southampton in the South. However we are in a position to change and expand our area as and when required. We are currently exploring the possibility of opening a new distribution depot based at one of the Premier Companies in Portsmouth, so opening up a whole new region for us to expand into. Cream of the Crop also own our own UK sourcing company called Desiree, a company that has forged links with many growers and farms throughout the UK promoting UK produce and helping UK growers to send their produce to the central markets throughout the country, in fact we supply many of our competitors with UK produce through Desiree. Our purchasing policies require us to procure home grown products from proven sustainable sources as a matter of course in front of imported produce whenever possible, price and quality permitting. We have recently purchased our own farm from whence we will produce herbs and other produce for the UK market, and this farm is within the M25 so it is definitely local to the capital! Having the backing of one of the major industry players gives Cream of the Crop a huge advantage over other companies in our trade, namely that we have tremendous purchasing power, the ability to purchase top quality produce at rates many companies cannot compete with. This means we are in a position to pass this advantage onto our clients in the form of discounts, rebates and very competitive price schedules. That is not to say that we are the cheapest, but we offer value for money that cannot be beaten. This along with our experience and knowledge of our trade has enabled us to move onwards and upwards but at a rate that we can control. That way we are able to expand without pressure, providing a top quality service at very competitive rates by making sure that we do what we say we will do, by fulfilling our promises to our clients and ensuring that we do the job to the best of our ability. The proof of that statement is that our client portfolio is constantly growing across the whole range of catering establishments, from the smallest café to major clients that receive lorry loads of produce each day. Cream of the Crop is a company that is moving forwards, and it is to the advantage of our clients to move forwards with us.
