York Mystery Plays 2012 Digital Marketing Internship
The York Mystery Plays 2012 is seeking an enthusiastic marketing intern, to complete an
internship for the minimum period of 3 months, working 1-2 days a week from 9:00am – 4:00pm.
Please note that we are flexible with hours, and will accommodate people who have other
commitments. This position would start in January 2012.
During 2012, a partnership comprising of York Museums Trust, York Theatre Royal and Riding Lights
Theatre Company, supported by the City of York Council, will produce a major re-staging of the
world famous York Mystery Plays in the Museum Gardens for the first time since 1988. This will be
the biggest production for the last decade that has been seen in the region.
The medieval cycle of the York Mystery Plays has been told by the York community for hundreds of
years and is deeply embedded in the City’s cultural heritage. In August of next year a covered,
bespoke, 1,400 capacity auditorium will use the ruins of St. Mary’s Abbey as a back-drop for 32
performances of a new, dynamic production of the Mystery Cycle.
The aim of the project is to include up to 1,000 members of York’s community to work alongside the
professional team to help stage the plays.
Role Description
Supporting the Mystery 2012 communications team in their marketing and communications towards
the project in August 2012 by:

Working with Volunteer team towards marketing of the 2012 production.

Copywriting for the web, print and on-line media.
-
Communicating with Press and Media.
-
To take a lead on social media activity using facebook, twitter and other.
-
Keeping the York Mystery Plays You Tube page up to date.
-
Analysing the York Mystery Plays website visitor statistics with Google Analytics.
-
To collect and archive online coverage.
-
Drafting copy, adding images and making changes to the York Mystery Plays 2012 website.
-
To ensure that the Mystery 2012 ‘Press and Media’ section of the website is kept up to date.
-
Researching ways to market the York Mystery Plays 2012 digitally and online.
-
Using initiative to research ways to market the York mystery Plays 2012 digitally and online.
-
Helping to organise Mystery Plays events, such as volunteer socials, press nights and volunteer drop in sessions.

Answering incoming calls to the office and to enter information into data bases provided and
to support work towards project events
