GUNNISON COUNCIL FOR THE ARTS

POLICY ON FRIENDS OF THE GUNNISON COUNCIL FOR THE ARTS

Adopted by the Board on 11/19/09

RECOMMENDED TO BE RESCINDED ON JANUARY 17, 2011

The Friends of the Gunnison Council for the Arts (GCA) is drawn from the GCA’s donors in the highest category of individual membership and business membership.

Each donor in the largest category for individual and business memberships shall have the opportunity to choose to serve on the Friends when they make their donation. All donors who wish to be on the Friends automatically are on the Friends.

The Friends is a quasi-independent body. It elects its own Chair whose liaison to the GCA is the first Vice-President, who is always invited to their meetings.

Friends will:

Be solicited by the Chair of the Friends to make an additional contribution to the GCA’s permanent/”true” endowment

Recuit new members to the GCA, working with the Executive Director (or, if designated, the Assistant to the Director)

Friends may expect to review a quarterly communication about GCA – a “peek behind the scenes.” This may be authored by the second Vice-President. It will be sent electronically.

Friends will receive selected key documents of GCA, such as the Annual Report, the Strategic

Plan, and the Capital Plan.

They will be convened in July by their Chair to offer feedback on GCA’s plan, community impact, etc. The second Vice-President, the GCA President and the Executive Director will be present at this meeting, with the other members of the Executive Committee of the GCA present if they can be.

The second Vice-President will provide their comments, in written form, to the Board as input for the August strategic planning meeting.

Friends will all be invited to the December Annual Meeting and the reception that follows.
