November Minutes - Will be reviewed at the January meeting.
Treasurer – Steve Burns
November Treasurer’s Report: Motion was made by Ashley Bullers and seconded by Cassie Moyer to approve the
November 2011 Treasurer’s Report. All were in favor. Motion stands approved.
Report from the Executive Board:
MPSA was asked by Julie Raab and Kelly Perry to support the Newberry reading program and the Board has agreed to
do so. A plaque will hang in the library and at the end of the year students from 4th & 5th grade who have met the
requirements will have their names engraved on the plaque.
The Board has also received a request to fund a Kindergarten field trip to Hands on House in Lancaster. It has not been
approved yet because of the amount of travel time and possible busing issues.
The Winter Wear items were taken off the Christmas tree early because the dinner will be held on December 11th and
the items will be donated at that time.
Old Business:
There were 119 parents who visited the school during American Education Days. This was low compared to previous
years.
Quarter Days earned approximately $54.00 each week. Leftovers went to Santa’s Workshop and some will go to the
Winter Concert. If anyone has any new ideas on how to run Quarter Days, please let Missie know. One possibility
would be to do it alphabetically rather than by grade.
School Store went well. Another volunteer slot may be added to help during the busy times.
Teacher Luncheon was really enjoyed by teachers and staff.
Fall Family Fun Night was held at Olympic Skating Center. We gave out $93.00 in skate rentals and $155.00 in snack
bar vouchers. It was discussed whether or not to have another skating party in the spring. Other ideas would be to go
to Twin Ponds, Friendship Center or Central Penn. Kim Heck will look into pricing for Central Penn and we can
discuss again at a future meeting.
Mrs. Lopez:
November 16th was Mix It Up at lunch. The students get to sit with students from other classrooms and questions are
on the tables. The students ask each other questions and then fill out a reflection sheet. Mrs. McMahon organizes this
event.
Miss DiCola will be in charge of doing the yearbook this year.
Door decorating needs to be done by tomorrow.
An extra day was given for Thanksgiving break because their have been a lot of students absent within the school
district during this day in past years.
The Winter Concert will be held this Wednesday. Christmas carols have been jazzed up for the concert.
There will be a 2 hour delay this Thursday.
New Business:
A few kindergarten parents raised concern regarding their child getting off the school buses because there is no one
meeting them to make sure that they get into the school and to their respective classrooms. Mrs. Lopez will re-evaluate
this and see what changes can be made, so that someone will be waiting for the students when they arrive.
The Spirit Wear orders that were placed, should arrive on Friday, December 16th.
This will be Cassie Moyer’s last year as a chair for Santa’s Workshop. It would be a good idea to have this as a five (5)
person committee. Liza Smith will continue on as a co-chair. Talk to Cassie or Shannon if interested in joining this
committee.
We will again have a Thirty-One lunch tote fundraiser in January. If anyone books a party with Lisa Harvey during the
fundraiser, Lisa will donate a portion of her proceeds to MPSA.
If anyone is interested in going to the PTO Convention on March 15, 2011 in Reading, please let Shannon know.
