PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES To deliver the lifelong learning and events programme, to increase access to and understanding of collections and exhibitions and to increase income. To train Visitor Services Officers, Creative Facilitators, Learning volunteers in the delivery of the learning programme. To support the work of the Director of Museums and Galleries and the Head of Programming and Collections, supporting the delivery of the Learning Strategy and the achievement of Canterbury Museums and Galleries’ strategic objectives. To deliver the Arts Award programme, supporting children and young people to achieve this nationally accredited qualification. To input information for the maintenance of the SE Schools Database for Museums. To manage the learning volunteers and casual Learning Assistants 1 Page 1 of 6 JD Template October 2013 To implement the evaluation programme for the learning and events programme. To contribute to funding applications related to the learning programme. To work in partnership with local organisations, including schools, universities, businesses and heritage and arts organisations. To take school group bookings. To deliver the learning offer for foreign language students, increasing footfall and income. To prepare proposals and evaluation for consideration by the Programming Group. To work closely with the other members of the Programming and Collections team to develop integrated programmes which combine learning, exhibitions and community engagement. To support the Head of Operations and Head of Marketing and Visitor Experience to ensure effective communication and collaboration, ensuring that any Facilities and Visitor Service staffing requirements are requested well in advance of events and activities. To support the Marketing and Audience Development team to regularly provide them with information about the learning programme for print, website and social media marketing. To order learning materials. To maintain, restock and replenish handling collections. To prepare learning materials, both print and digital, to widen access to collections and programmes. To carry out other duties commensurate with the grade and skills of the post holder as may be directed The duties of the post are subject to review and in this respect the details contained are provided as an aid to performance of the contract of employment REQUIRED ATTRIBUTES Knowledge Knowledge of the National Curriculum and Arts Award. Organisational and planning skills Good communication skills, both verbal and written. Creative thinker Ability to work with children and young people, demonstrating an empathy with them. IT skills, including Microsoft office. Ability to work collaboratively and in partnership with colleagues and external organizations, building relationships to further strategic objectives. Skills Experience Qualifications Experience of delivering learning programmes, preferably within a museum and/ or gallery to suit different learning styles. Experience of partnership working. Develop and maintain close working relationships with colleagues across Canterbury City Council departments including The Marlowe Theatre and Finance department on a monthly basis via face to face, telephone and email contact to give advice/obtain information on all matters relating to the learning offer External Contact as and when needed via face to face meetings, email, letter and telephone to schools, universities, colleges, community and cultural and heritage organisations across Canterbury District and regionally to obtain and offer information on all matters relating to the learning offer WORKING ENVIRONMENT The Museum is a 7 day operation and regularly hosts events outside its core hours.
