Choose one of the following formats to show me what you have learned during this unit. I want you to create something that I could use in a classroom to teach these units again, so it must be educational.
If you have another idea for a format, please talk it over with me and get approval before you start. Hand in this rubric with your final product.
This assignment should be 100% your work. You may talk to others about ideas, but you make those ideas yours and actually do all the work.
Children’s Storybook
Create a book, with a story and pictures, to teach children between ages of 6-8 about one of the following topics
1.
plate tectonics (location, movement, boundaries, continental drift, sea-floor spreading)
2.
earthquakes (cause and effect, location, measuring, predicting, relationship with plate tectonics)
3.
volcanoes (cause, location, types of eruptions, activity stages, landforms created)
3D Model
Make a model of one of the following:
1.
3 types of boundaries
2.
Earth’s 12 tectonic plates
3.
Volcanic eruption
Drawings/Paintings
Create a series of pieces, a minimum of 1 for each of the 3 topics: plate tectonics, earthquakes, volcanoes.
Stories/Poems/Songs
Create a series of pieces, a minimum of 1 for each of the 3 topics: plate tectonics, earthquakes, volcanoes.
Research Paper
Conduct research on a particular topic/thesis and write an extensive paper about it. Your thesis must be approved by me before you begin and deal with one of the following topics: plate tectonics, earthquakes, volcanoes.
Board Game – 2 people may work together
Create a game that students can play to review these units. Be sure to include all three chapters. Please use your notes to make sure all objectives and vocabulary have been covered.
Video – newscast, documentary, or educational video (think Bill Nye) – 2 people may work together
