PRINCIPAL’S NEWSLETTER FEBRUARY 5, 2014 Dear Families of Academy of Our Lady, Although it’s icy and snowy, the warmth and spirit for Catholic Schools Week is still glowing! What a celebration! This year was a great success, from student speakers, lectors, tour guides, the Home and School hospitality, the faculty preparations for special learning experiences and fabulous events! THANK YOU HOME AND SCHOOL ASSOCIATION! Mrs. Hausmann was ever-present to assist with the smooth flow of activities! The students loved Pajama Day complete with The Brain Show and Ice Pops! Thank you parents for your hospitality, baking and tours during the Open House. The week ended with the anticipated snow tubing at Campgaw, which had perfect weather with a few flurries! Thank you to the entire Hospitality Committee chaired by Mrs. Bracht and Mrs. Stappenbeck assisted by Mrs. Nations prepared a delicious luncheon for Teacher Appreciation Day. Thank you! THANK YOU FACULTY! Thank you for your hospitality during Open House! Each classroom looked wonderful and provided visitors with a snapshot of the many great things you do. Your preparations for our Volunteer Reception, the Spelling Bees, Biography Day, Gym Extravaganza, Volleyball, the student displays, sharing your favorite vacation spots enhance the celebration Thank you for all you do! THANK YOU STUDENTS! You wore your uniforms proudly on Sunday to promote our school and greeted parishioners warmly at all the Masses. You proclaimed to Word of God and carried up the gifts at St. Catharine Church, you spoke and gave your witness at your parishes sharing how much Catholic education at Academy of Our Lady has meant: Great Job: Sebastian Jarpa, Durkin McCarthy, Kaleigh McCormick, Jack Toolen, who spoke at all the Masses at Our lady of Mount Carmel and to Scott Dickson, Tyler Duff and Lisa Ferioli who spoke at St. Catharine. Each spoke wonderfully, and I’m still hearing such affirming compliments. Our tour guides were well prepared for Sunday and did a phenomenal job expressing enthusiasm and knowledge that visitors have decided enroll this week. Grade 7 prepared a beautiful Closing Liturgy with Mr. Eastlake and Mrs. Sori. Your excellent behavior on Friday, lovely homemade cards, hearts of chocolates and flowers made Teacher Appreciation Day an exceptionally terrific day! THANK YOU PASTORS! Thank you to our pastors, Father Tom Wisniewski and Msgr. Rozniak for the support and encouragement. Your service to our Catholic school makes it a great place to be. Father Benedetto, Msgr. Ron and Fr. Kevin joined us for pizza at lunch and Father Tom W. celebrated our Catholic Schools Week Liturgy! THANK YOU FATHERS GUILD! This Saturday will be the Annual Beefsteak! A great evening of fun, dancing, bids, eating and its all for the kids! Join us – its not too late! This Friday, Feb. 7th is First Friday. Mass will be celebrated at 9 AM by Father Carmine Rizzi with Grade 3 preparing the liturgy. There will be a 12:15 PM dismissal. Next week we will have school on Monday, Feb. 10th (no Professional Day) if the weather gives us a break. We also hope to celebrate the 100th day of school (which we’re still counting due to snow days!); Lincoln’s Birthday and Valentine’s Day, with class parties after lunch on Friday. School will be closed from Feb. 15 -23 for Winter Recess. How will we make up the snow days? Why not just have school next week? It is very close to make families rearrange schedules, even Monday may be difficult. If you have suggestions for make ups for the snow days, please e-mail them to me. Consultation will be made with the School Advisory Board and the Archdiocese after we pass the “snow” season to determine the number of days and dates. Your understanding is most appreciated.
