ICE CONDITION FORECAST 29.03.-07.04.2006.
Within the next 10 days the weather in the Baltic Sea region will be mostly determined by the
cyclones. The air temperature will rise up: at night it is expected from -3º to +3º, but daytime
+2…+7º. The slow ice melting in the Gulf of Riga will start.
The moderate west wind at the end of March will some improve the ice conditions on the
fairway Riga- Kolka and in the Irbes Strait. But at the beginning of April the wind will turn to the
east, this will cause the ice drifting westwards and the amount of the ice on the fairway will
increase.
Along the coast of the Gulf will remain the fast ice, with cracks in many places.
Further off - very close and compact, slowly melting drift ice 20-40 cm thick,
in hummocks locally up to 1 m.
