Job Description Job Title: Young Peoples Psychological Therapist and Development Worker Grade: 26 Date: Duration: 3 year fixed term contract Hours: Team: Freedom from Torture North West Reports to: Manager Department: National Clinical Services Responsible for: Volunteer team of therapists working with young people September 2011 17.5 hours per week Purpose of the Job To support services and practitioners across the North West in developing good practice in working with separated young people and young people in families who are survivors of torture and organised violence by offering training, clinical supervision and consultancy. To establish a small holistic service at the North West centre for young people who are survivors of torture who have complex needs. This will involve the recruitment and training of a small team of volunteer psychological therapists from a range of therapeutic disciplines. Main Responsibilities Development work across the region To provide consultation, training, supervision, advice and support to staff and services who are working with separated young people who are survivors of torture and organised violence to enable good practice to become embedded into organisational culture. To build capacity by providing consultation, training, supervision, advice and support to staff and services who are working with young people who are survivors of torture and organised violence across the region, in both the statutory and voluntary sector. To represent Freedom from Torture at a range of forums and external meetings, ensuring the needs of young people in families/separated young people affected by torture are promoted across the voluntary and statutory sector. To contribute to the development of Freedom from Torture’s Children Strategy. Psychological therapy Work To establish a small multi disciplinary holistic service for young people who are survivors of torture and organised violence living in the North West region. This will involve the recruitment and training of a small group of volunteer psychological therapists. To undertake comprehensive assessments, including risk and child protection assessments of young people. To carry a small caseload of young people who are survivors of torture who have complex needs. To advise and support colleagues in FfT’s adult psychological service on the needs of young people, and provide internal training to colleagues across FfT North West’s range of services. To build effective relationships with referrers and other key partner organisations so that stakeholders are aware of the service remit and referral pathway. To maintain high standards of clinical record keeping including electronic data entry and recording. To write medico-legal reports as required. Other duties To contribute to the development and maintenance of best practice within the service, and the organisation, by taking part in regular clinical supervision and appraisal. Maintain an active engagement with current developments, professional activities, and training to ensure continuing professional development. To represent and exemplify the core values of Freedom from Torture. To maintain up to date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and issues, clinical and academic developments of relevance to the service and client group. To adhere to and implement Freedom from Torture’s policies and procedures. To liaise and consult with colleague across Freedom from Torture about the child and family work in the North West, ensuring close liaison with Policy and External Affairs around key issues affecting young people/separated young people in the region.
