PURPOSE OF THE POSITION To welcome visitors to the Devonport Regional Gallery and provide informative information with regard to the exhibition and public programs. To provide assistance in routine administrative tasks enabling the efficient and successful operation of the Gallery. B. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES Accountability Measures Provide Customer Service to Welcome visitors to the Gallery visitors of the Devonport Provide information on exhibitions and public Regional Gallery programs Provide information on items in the Gallery shop and promote the sale of catalogues, cards and any exhibition specific items Respond to enquiries via phone and in person in General administrative duties a courteous and friendly manner in accordance with Council’s Customer Service Charter Perform tasks to assist the Gallery Administrator including library register and borrowed books, and mail outs. Ensure card racks and shop shelves are neat and dust-free and re-stock items as required or requested by staff Assist in ensuring the security of the site is maintained Carry out procedures in accordance with Manual Handling Professional Museum Standards including manual handling procedures under the supervision of the Director or installation staff. Includes preparation, labelling, handling an d occasional assistance with minor installation tasks Comply with Health and Safety Comply with all legislation, Council safety requirements & Council policies procedures, safe work practices and instructions and ensure information is provided to the broader community as required Take reasonable care of own health and safety and health and safety of other persons, including persons working under the direction or supervision of you, who may be affected by your acts or omissions at the workplace and comply with any POSITION DESCRIPTION Accountability Measures direction given to you by the employer or responsible officer with respect to any matter relating to health and safety under the Act Avoid, eliminate or minimize hazards within your control, and immediately report Attend and actively participate in training programs provided in the interests of OH&S Ensure accidents and near misses are reported C. THE ROLE OF THE VOLUNTEER Context Volunteers, whilst operating under a moral code, also acquire certain rights and responsibilities. Volunteers have the right at all times to feel comfortable in their work environment, be supported, understand their obligations and what is expected of them, and to volunteer in a safe working environment. Access to adequate training, grievance and dispute processes and insurance cover are all rights of the volunteer. Likewise, Council has expectations of its volunteers. These include punctuality, courtesy, reliability, compliance with policies, procedures and safe work practices and respect towards Council staff, fellow volunteers and members of the community with whom they have dealings. Volunteers and Council alike has the right to terminate a volunteer’s involvement in a program or service at any time. It is expected that the terminating party provide adequate notification of their intention. Volunteers are not paid for their work, and operate in conjunction with, not in place, of paid staff members. In accordance with Volunteers Australia advice on volunteering, volunteers will not be expected to undertake more than 16 hours volunteering service at the site in any given week. Minimum requirement of one shift per month for 12 months. D. F. KEY COMMUNICATIONS Internal A close working relationship is required with the Gallery Administrator/Volunteer Administrator, other Council Staff and volunteers of the centre. External Volunteers will interact extensively with a range of customers from across the wider community, intrastate, interstate and overseas.
