SESSION ONE
_____Economic Strategies and Status
Come hear first-hand what the City can and can’t do about the mall! Economic Development staff will also
share the most recent trends, efforts, and numbers related to our economic vitality.
______Neighborhood Watch/ Community Emergency Response Training (CERT)
This session will set the foundation for learning about neighborhood watch efforts and what neighbors can
do to help themselves during emergencies and extreme weather events. Both of these programs are great
for organizing neighbors around common goals.
______HOA: Saving Green by Going Green
HOA members will learn about the changes to the Pay as You Throw (PAYT) Trash Ordinance and how to
save money by “right-sizing” your recycling and trash subscriptions. We will also cover residential
notification requirements for HOA managers to ensure compliance with the PAYT regulations. Information
regarding grant funding available to enhance natural common areas on HOA property and best practices
about storm water management will also be covered.
SESSION TWO
_____Plan Fort Collins
Fort Collins is deep into a community discussion on updating and merging City Plan and the Transportation
Master Plan. This effort will set the stage for both the short and long term visions of our community. This
session will provide an update on the process as well as a chance to get involved and provide feedback and
ideas.
______CSU: Helping Students to be Good Neighbors
CSU and CSU students are a big part of our community and every year approximately 4,000 students move
into our neighborhoods. Come learn all the creative and innovative ways that CSU and the City work to
make this transition a success for both students and long-term residents.
______HOA: Rights and Responsibilities
Being part of a community means sharing a common desire to promote harmony and contentment. This
goal is best achieved when homeowners and association leaders recognize and accept their rights and
responsibilities. This entails striking a reasonable, logical balance between the best interests of individual
owners and those of the community as a whole. This presentation will create an understanding of what this
means specifically for homeowners and how they can be a positive resident in their community.
SESSION 3
______Resourcing our Future
This session will be a discussion of participants regarding unmet funding needs in police, fire, parks and
recreation, and transportation. These conversations have been happening throughout the City to get a
pulse for potential cuts or potential new revenue sources. These are important topics that will have a large
impact on the future of our community.
______Neighborhood Code Enforcement and Community Building
What do code enforcement and community building have in common? Both increase neighborhood quality.
This session will focus on combining the efforts of the City and neighbors to create neighborhoods that
everyone can enjoy.
_______HOA: Covenant Enforcement Basics
This class focuses on the legalities and processes involved in enforcing your covenants (and rules). We will
discuss the importance of having a good enforcement policy and procedures in place and when to get legal
counsel involved. We will also discuss enforcement of rules and how this may differ from enforcing the
covenants.
