The Beginning…
The English 11 class will
work before they attend
the assembly scheduled
for period 2; shall have a
big vocabulary review to
further their application
and knowledge for
tomorrow’s vocabulary
test, the second in the new
series.
We will also check the
questions for the three
selections of the Native
American literature.
Students should also be in
the process of selecting
the tribe that they will
research and to make dolls
to represent the results of
the literature. Since the
assembly is occurring
during this period, we will
not be able to complete
the literary discussion but
will before the test.
Students will be divided
into groups to report on
some aspect of Native
Americans and the media.
From these discussions,
they will begin formulating tops for research.
They will continue the
study of mechanics while
and prepare for a quiz on
capitalization later in the
week.
The remaining time will
be spent discussing the
last set of Native American selections while
preparing to test on this.

Vocabulary Power Plus
for the New SAT will
have its second unit of
testing today. What is
very efficient about this
new vocabulary is that
each lesson builds on the
previous one which means
students should review
their last unit words while
preparing for the
scheduled test. As with
the previous vocabulary,
they must spell (below)
correctly as well as use
them in and out of
context. They will also
have a section on roots
and prefixes, a critical part
of determining the
meanings of words.
Prep for the next unit
(#3) will begin today in
order to complete vocab
flash cards by Friday.
The periods one and two
classes will work to complate their vocabulary background, if needed. They will
also review the remaining
capitalization exercises and
necessary rules that support
their exercises. In addition,
we will ensure the review of
the Native American
selections since there was a
scheduled assembly earlier in
the week. They will prepare
for the test on the literature
(continued from above)
test on Thursday and the
capitalization and spelling
quizzes on Friday.
These students are being encouraged to work extremely
hard on pressing skills as the
SOL for writing is approaching and as I correct their
essays, I am speaking to
specific skills.
The Adv. Class is quite
comfortable with their
Native American studies,
so I will permit them to
begin writing their proposal for their enrichment
research/projects.
We shall also complete
the work on capitalization
and ready ourselves for
testing on Thursday.
I shall introduce the
second set of mechanics
which involve marks of
punctuation…
This class will take their
test on the Native American
selections after a review and
discussion of possible
creative reports/projects on
this area of work.
Once completed, I will
ensure the preparation for
tomorrow’s quiz on capitalization.
We will also begin the next
section of mechanics: the
punctuation using commas,
colons, and semicolons.
Students will also be reminded of quotations marks and
other marks.

Thursday/9-19
Two events that impact
the school community will
occur this week:
--The SCA Assembly which
will lessen class instructional
time for a few minutes each
period.
--Back-to-school Night on
Thursday…
These students will take
their test on the Native
American selections with an
emphasis on reading closely
and analyzing information.
We shall focus on noting
particularly the implicational
inferences that students
should quickly pick up and
apply throughout the reading
of all of these selections.
If any time remains, we
shall discuss their potential
creative research on Native
American culture.
Students will also discuss
the vocabulary, the language
mechanics, and the comprehension of each selection.
This will be the learning that
will be the focus as they
advance in their reading and
writing selections.
Introduction to the next
mechanics: the commas and
other marks of punctuation.
The quiz on capitalization
will occur at the period’s
beginning. Then we will
continue with the next set of
mechanics and an
introduction to the explorers’
literature.
I expect students to review
daily the mechanical skills
as rote as it might seem…

1, 2, & 3 will be
the order…
