TEXAS REGIONS MODEL DUE Thursday, December 5 THIS PROJECT WILL COUNT AS A TEST GRADE! NO LATE PROJECTS WILL BE ACCEPTED! 1. Plan your project by writing the names of 5 major cities (one in each region and the state capital), 5 major rivers, 3 mountain ranges, 2 escarpments and the gulf located on the southeastern edge of Texas on a sheet of notebook paper. 2. On a map of Texas, locate each of the places you named. 3. Use the outline map of Texas (attached to this sheet) as your base. Securely attach the outline map to a piece of cardboard no larger than 14” x 20”. 4. Create a model of Texas out of clay on top of the outline with each region being a different color (DO NOT USE BLUE). With a small amount of clay, mold the mountain ranges and escarpments showing the different elevations of each region by varying the thickness of the clay. For example, the coastal Plains Region will be nearly flat, and the Mountains and Basins Region will be thick and will have mountain peaks rising up from the base. 5. Finally, cut out small paper rectangles or triangles for each of the places you listed in Step One l. Write the name of the place on the paper and glue it to a toothpick. Insert each flag in its proper place on the model or use a key and symbols to label the model. Be sure to label your regions! NOTE: CLAY CAN BE PURCHASED IN THE CRAFT DEPARTMENT AT WALMART, AT MICHAEL’S OR AT HOBBY LOBBY. (examples: Crayola Model Magic, Nondrying Modeling Clay, Sculpey Oven Bake Clay.)
