Ignatius Mitchell was "a defender of the frontier forts or stations of Kentucky". Collins

Company, 1st Maryland Regt., Col. John H. Stone. His name appears on a
company muster roll for May 1788, dated Valley Forge 1 June 1778 which shows
that he enlisted for three years. War Dept., WDC; 1779 Army Journal 1, folio 5a;

1784 Depreciation Pay folio 41, 216 and 68. The item in the Army Journal, dated
2 Apr 1779, is account with John Randall, the clothier for the Maryland troops.
Ignatious Mitchell was then in service and received an issue for a uniform or part
of it. The item from the Depreciation Pay Books are all various phases of the same
transaction made 6 July 1784 to Ignatius Mitchell who was given the rank of Sgt.
